You should keep some perspective around your projects. You have two massive undertakings and not that much time to impact on either. You work in product planning mate; maybe it's time to apply some of your 6 Sigma thesis to the cars that you're modifying?

Don't get too use to that large gap next to the Amazon........there will be a large Betty shaped inanimate object in there this week :)
well, there might be more space soon, and 1 less project. I need to sell the Nissan or body parts...

I bought an Elise today! oops.

Too many is not possible. The issue is not having the time to use them all. I am sure I can find help with that though.

Back and focusing on the RX7, this morning I fabricated a tool to measure the required movement and we got the clutch to work for the first time. Shortly afterwards a new slave cylinder mount was fabricated and to match the movement needed I sellected a mazda MX5 slave rather than the giant SD1 unit.

The results... We drove the car for the first time!

I have a video (.MOV file form a digital camera) if anyone can tell me how to compress 75mb of a 50second video so that i can put it in my photobucket acount. But here is an engine bay pic and one of a few of the toys together for now:

Sounds sweet enough. Did it break down at that point in the road test?

That video gives you absolutely no concept of how good it sounds Gareth......at tickover it is lovely but blowing a bit, but as soon as the revs pick up you lose the blowing and get overwhelmed by the most gorgeous, layered purr. What this will sound like under load is anyone's guess but it does look like a very interesting project. I hope the guys keep faith with it and finish it off properly, rather than get distracted with Lotus shaped fancies :)

There is still a bit to do to get it on the road, but it makes moving it on and off the ramp so much easier now.

- Gearbox mount still not quite right
- Engine mount blocks need re-making from something other than steel (nylon)
- wiring harness is a work in progress
- interior hasnt been started
- body prep and paint to finish
- rear dampers need to be fitted with new collers as the old ones are siezed
- exhaust valves need to be sourced so it can run open manifolds for a really rude engine noise!
