This is quite possibly the best thing I've done since starting this re-build.....label everything!
It's taken quite a few (very wet) hours bouncing back and forth between the user manual/internet and crawling around the engine bay but I have to say that as obvious as it may seem, it's made a huge amount of difference
I can now identify exactly which connector does what and where it should be located within the engine bay without having to systematically go through the entire loom each and every time

I've marked up the engine as well so now I know exactly which cylinder is which and what each connector is for and therefore easily identify which connector on the loom it is paired to

Looking back at it now I believe that there is a possibility that at some stage whilst the old engine was still in the car, one or more of the coil pack connectors was mixed up with one of the O2 sensors, it's only now that I've checked the colour coding on each connector that I know 100% which each one is
Nissan in their infinite wisdom paired up a few of the coil pack connectors with their corresponding injector connector, however separated several others and spread them around the engine bay on different sub-looms.....therefore mixing them up is easily done
I was also wondering if grounding kits could be used to substitute the old knackered battery (- and +) cable?

and also wanted to ask if it's perfectly fine to mount the Aeromotive fuel filter directly onto the Aeromotive fuel pump rather than have a length of hose in between?

With regards to the battery cables I have just done a whole revamp of the battery calves and moved the battery to the boot. I will take some details and pics at the weekend if you want to see some details but I effectively have the following.
1 pos cable running from starter motor underneath the vehicle and through a new hole in the spare wheel area plus armoured casing to it.
1 new pos cable added onto the cockpit services connection by the brake master cylinder which runs through the vehicle to the boot.
1 new neg cable off the battery to ground.
I plan to run a grounding kit off the engine as well.

If I'm honest I'm not too fussed where the battery gets located at the moment as that won't be finalised until it's corner weighted, same goes for the final fitting place of the fuel cell etc. At the moment I need to clarify if the cable I have is up to the task
The red cable (+) is marked up as:
High performance 8GA 99.9999% Oxygen Free Copper 105 degrees C Hexagonal Power Cable
the blue cable (-) has no markings but was purchased from Dragon Performance as a Grounding Kit for an FD so I think it's a safe bet that the negative/ground cable will be fine, it's the red cable that I'm not 100% on

Is that cable being supplied pre crimped or are you doing that yourself?
The thickness on the red cable I have here is approx. 7mm so I doubt that'll be up to the job, so looks like I might have to order some in

I got a heavy duty 10mm crimp from a house electrical shop in fact I had to buy a pack of ten so have a few spare. Then crimped and soldered that onto the cable and put some heat shrink over it too. Had some armoured cable protector conduit in the workshop too so used that for under the car.

Well I ordered a HEL braided clutch hose from a zed specialist this morning, this hose does away with the stock hard pipe and rubber hose configuration that uses 'T' piece and all sorts of other weird and wonderful connections that are prone to rusting....I do like making this car simpler any way that I can
Not too sure that almost £9 for postage isn't taking the piss though especially as I've recently received an email from the company saying that it won't be shipped until next Monday....for £9 I want it yesterday!!

Yet again I haven't really done a great deal on the zed today despite being flat out working all day!
In between meetings and cleaning/ironing/polishing (I helped my wife prepare our holiday cottage for the guests arriving today) I figured I should do something zed related and if not something oily and dirty then at least something practical.....so I pondered on something that had been pissing me off for months
The front bumper
It's easy to remove and then put back on again but it just seemed to be getting in the way, every time I tried to do something the thing was always there. Usually I try to keep it off and tuck it away underneath the car, however now that the car's down off the stands I obviously can't fit it under there anymore.
There have been a few occasions where the wind has picked it up and blown it down the drive or occasionally when the rain is heavy enough it has a tendency to float away, which is really bloody annoying!!
So by way of a token effort of work on the zed and for purely practical reasons I've screwed it to the side of the workshop

and for tomorrows exciting build update I'll be scrubbing some bolts with scotch bright and WD40
