You don't have a spare alloy alternator pulley do you chief?

Shit-tech were supposed to have fitted one but they clearly didn't as the one that's on there is OEM and after contacting a well known company asking if they could supply an alternator pulley, they've informed me that they only sell as a complete kit....apart from the crank pulley which apparently they will sell separately???

anyway such is life

Yes mate, they're asking $75 + shipping (and taxes etc.) the UK company are asking £89 + shipping (not sure if that includes VAT) for the whole set.

I don't really want to be shelling out on a whole set when I only need a part that probably costs £15 and of course there's that niggling feeling that at £89 for the lot the quality will be a bit suspect

I might just make do with the OEM

or thinking about it, maybe an aftermarket 'S' body or Skyline part will fit?

I've been doing a bit of research in anticipation of having to replace the knackered OEM engine mounts that came off the zed. I'm undecided on what to go for but am inclined to go with solid mounts over urethane or OEM and then simply tolerate the resulting increase in vibration in exchange for the benefits that solid mounts provide.

These are the set that I am considering shipping over, which are a very simple design. Assuming the quality of materials are good (which the reviews on various US forums confirm) then there's very little can go wrong I feel

I like the idea of the threaded centre effectively meaning that the bolt doesn't move

The zed will never find itself back on the road and therefore is now purely a track car; to be fair the fact that it has a gnats cock of ground clearance and would need to be trailered the 300m to the top of my driveway every time I wanted to take it out on the road, kind of made the call for me anyway!!

any thoughts on these mounts guys?

For those mounts I would definitely use a Stillen engine damper too. I do have a set of uprated engine mounts for sale that seem to be of a kind of poly urethane construction ;)

From what I've been told poly mounts are highly recommended if it was to be used as a daily driver but for a track only car the solid mounts have been advised.

The vibration at idle can be a bit harsh by all accounts (I'm guessing that's where the damper would help quite a bit) and with the new solid diff and solid sub-frame bushes going on shortly, this is going to rattle the old finished me thinks!!

I'm looking at solid gearbox mounts now to determine if they are worth the investment

How you doing for hoses and such around the brake booster as I'm looking into getting a company to make up 4 ply ones as there only seems to be 1 company out there in the UK making them for Zeds and it's the same one that made those carbon fibre scuttles panels that I'm not a fan of the company due to the customer service of the whole deal. Their hoses are only 3 ply too which to the majority in the zed community means sweet fa but I'd rather pay the same or less and get 4 ply.

I'm looking at getting the 2 clutch booster, 2 brake booster and 4 IAAV ones on the back/side of plenum. Also then scope to get more done by them for whatever is required however prevention of boost leaks on a track car will be important especially and the old hoses are probe to cracking.

I've used some silly expensive Samco hose and cut it to length, £50-£60 per metre if I remember correctly. I know the company in question, I'm still owed a set of water/coolant pipes from 2011....I've since made my own

Well I managed to get absolutely bugger all done on the zed today

On Sunday morning whilst heading down the mountain I noticed a strange noise coming from the Land Rovers front left/passenger side wheel, it sounded suspiciously like a brake issue and I figured that it was probably time to look at replacing the pads...

I dropped my son off at football and had a quick look which confirmed the front left pad was shot and had gouged a cheeky groove into the disc. I was a tad peeved as I'd had no warning light from the front brake sensor and strangely the drivers side pad had plenty left on it?

Initially I could see many £££'s floating out of my wallet never to be seen again and suspected that with it being a new'ish Land Rover I'd be shelling out a small fortune on a new set of pads and discs.

Not so it would seem, I went onto the Disco forum to see what parts supplier the guys in the know recommended and they steered me towards a company that specialise in new Land Rover parts (Advanced Factors) even though I went for the more expensive option (with discounts and VAT included) the entire front set of new discs, pads and all the gubbins for fitting came in at just £104!!

The parts arrived today so I got cracking on swapping them over, I thought it was a nice touch that the guys had supplied a load of extras free of charge including a decent sized tube of copper grease, replacement brake sensor, new torx bolts and other bits

Other than a single 21mm bastard bolt that initially didn't want to play ball the whole job only took a shade over an hour and the brakes now work a treat

I figured that as I was working on the Land Rover anyway I might as well get cracking on fitting the headlight and rear light guards that I'd bought back in November last year as a precaution against my wife driving it (that's not me being sexist, she agreed that as she hadn't driven for 9 months whilst pregnant, having never driven a large 4x4 before let alone up tight mountain lanes then we should fit them just in case)

in the end she opted to stick to driving the MPV instead and left me to drive the Land Rover. As a result the two boxes had been sat on a shelf ever since.

So rather than let them go to waste (and just in case I decide to move the bloody caravan again!!!) I thought it might be worth fitting them anyway.

The fronts were easy enough to fit though the rears needed a bit of fettling, measuring, aligning, re-measuring and finally drilling....job done.

So today has been a productive day albeit nothing to do with the zed :D
