Thanks guys, I have been reading online to see if other people have the same issues and can only find people with stock alarms who have the problems with the immobiliser, not an aftermarket alarm.
I am convinced it is something related to the alarm though as when I turn the ignition to start it the door motors make a noise like when the alarm is disabled and there is clicking in the engine bay.
Must be something simple but I am stumped......mechanical stuff I can handle.....electrics....no !!

Clicking in the engine bay could be from the starter sticking or a relay. The fact the alarm disarms makes me think it could be something else. Maybe double check with a different battery if pos, then get a multi meter on the starter then trace back from there maybe?

I know what you mean mate, I have tried the emergency disarm where you put your pin code in and this seems to switch it off but no change then it activates again about a minute later.dom187 wrote:Clicking in the engine bay could be from the starter sticking or a relay. Good shout re another battery though as thats the only thing I haven't tried (RX7 battery is flat and Civic is parked at the front of the drive so not enough room to take it from the Mini). I don't really want to go and buy another one if I don't have to though as the battery has only been taken off and shows 12.44v when you connect a multimeter across it.

I think the alarm is fitted when it comes into the UK, how new does the fob look?
shall I swing by in the rex and you can try the battery out of that?

Ok so I now feel like the biggest donkey in the world...........
Got in the car today, took the radio out again and dash to make sure I hadn't missed connecting something or split a wire...nothing.
Then checked the wiring to the starter and all seemed fine with no evidence of stretching or wires off.
So then get in the car, try starting again......no joy. I then think.....lets put the clutch down......yep you guessed it...started !!
Thinking this was a fluke I did the same thing again and yep started fine. Repeated this about 6 times over the course of 10 mins. I guess this is a safety feature of the car or something thats standard with the alarm and either I hadn't noticed (as I usually start with my foot down) or was a feature they disabled when I picked the car up and changing the battery has reset it.
Dont I now feel like the biggest doughnut !!!!!!
Yet more ammo for you chaps.......
On the plus side it works again, my mobile has died so am just charging it before going out in the car to see if this Mugen air box was worth it or a waste of time.

I won't laugh mate I have heard of that before especially foot on brake never even considered that especially as you said it was starting without foot down before.....
Oh well lesson learned and now you can tell emma it was a security feature they didn't tell you about and not something you broke !

I've heard of it with automatics when you have your foot on the brake but never a clutch pedal. Will have a look to see if thats a standard feature on a Type R.
Yep can breathe a sigh or relief its nothing I have done
Just took the car out, VTEC is louder but not excessively so. It sounds like a race car !! Can definitely feel the diff working and pulling. Just gotta learn that normally you'd change down one gear, in this you drop down two.....get the revs howling and then foot down

Glad you have got it sorted Gareth.
My Audi A6 manual wont start unless you put the clutch down although it does tell you off if try to start it without doing so with huge message across the dash screen.
