[quote="stuart"]As for the old scrap of ply :D (You can tell what's coming can't you) can you replace that when you get a chance as that had loosely been ear marked for use on Betty.

1'24"s??? Never on your life :D ;) Gavan Kershaw reckoned a 27" was about right for that and you driving it, so where did you get 3 seconds from in a 150bhp car? Fancy a gauntlet laid down style challenge?[quote]

You know I like a challenge! I will get the data logger hard wired in next time and combine it with incar video for the whole session. My target is to get to a 1.21 with the car sported, so I hope I am right. When is the next event at Snetterton?

I thought that wood was scrap by the state of it! If you were going to use it for anything external I will get you some better stuff that will last more than 5 mintues.

The rear clam as a lift-off is even cooler, but I might leave it a while after the struggle of doing the front. Must get the RX7 finished.

1.21 in a 150bhp car????? maybe if you don't brake anywhere lol....

Seriously though goodluck with that, not sure what the Bigmans best time is but i know it's roughly around the 1.21 and he has 130bhp more and not much more weight so i'll be interested to know if you achieve you aim.

Aero is going to be very limited on the car as the race series I have my eye on doesnt allow too many changes to bodywork. I will of course push the regulations for anything I can. With a flat underbody already there is nothign to do there.

Weight target is 825kg including me, and the pole for last years race with a maximum 150hp at the hubs was 1.21.8s. So my target is to get down to that time. I also have the other 10 circuits to learn too!

The misses gets to come to the unit and help too if she wants to see me ;o)

It is finally done! The splitter has been made, given a lick of matt black (I am not a carbon fibre tart) and the clam modified. It can now be removed in less than a minute, but is a lot easier with an assistant due to the size of it. The fits and shuts still need some work, and the clam still needs repainting and new grills, but I am taking the car of for a few days break so will worry about those issues in a week or so.

Will post the pics up a little later.

And here are the photos of it finished and back home:

Image

Image

The back is held by an Aerocatch on each side, with a lock for a bit of security. The front fits over a mount on the splitter and crash box structure with 4 dzus fastners holding it down. The only connection to remove is for the lights so it is a fairly quick process to take off now. I want to do the rear too which would be even more useful since everything is back there, but that is going to be really hard and this was painful enough for now.

I have photos of the laminating process for the splitter, but they arent very exciting. They will also remind me of the 4 nights it eventually took to make after a vacuum pump let me down half way through the layup. I will have to find another before I think about making any more parts.

Glad you like them.

The top one is a single RAW HDR, followed by sharpening and curves contrast adjustment in Photoshop. The lower one is just curves, red saturation and the dodge brush to underexpose the splitter and front of teh car so it can be seen better.
