2 year anniversary but forgot flowers

Post by pablo »

Took the car to Ford Fair at silverstone today our 2 yr anniversary with the car. Things did not quite go to plan and the car threw a tantrum on the way home :x
Only managed to get as far as Northampton services just before joining the motorway when she stopped.

Zero fuel pressure :x :x

Sat here watching the F1 waiting for car to be delivered, expecting it to get here about 01.30 am. Then got to start changing parts over tomorrow to see if we can solve it.
Then will have to get the fueling set up on the dyno before the weekend, looks like another very busy week before the next round of the TA. :(

Well, after spending most of the day on the car changing various parts still no joy  Will be towing the car over to TopBoss tomorrow morning. We have no idea what so ever as to where the problem could lie and as such if we will be able to get it fixed for the wekend

Are yo actually getting fuel pressure when the pump is buzzing? or is the pump just buzzing and not doing anything.

I had debri get in a fuel pump once and it ripped the blades off, fuel pump still buzzed, but didnt move any fuel

Will hopefully be able to try another fuel pump tomorrow as well as checking all fuel lines for any damage.

After hours of changing and checking everything on the fueling system the car finally started. So what happened?
In the fuse box is a relay which controls the fuel pump, the relay is fine we even swopped it with the one from Alans xr4i to see if that was the problem. The problem appears to be in the circuit board itself.

1. A fault in the circuit board cut the fuel supply to the engine for a split second whilst on boost.
2. The engine back fired through the vein meter (fuel metering unit) causing damage to a spring valve
3. Hours later when we left silverstone the circuit board pack up leaving the fuel pump working but not allowing fuel to get to the engine.
4. When this happened the earlier damaged spring valve jammed it self in the closed position.

Fitz at TopBoss managed to get the car running so we decided to take a steady drive back and then plan was to have it all checked over and set up again on the dyno in the next couple of days before Brands.

However whilst sitting in traffic and with no warning, temperature gauge normal I noticed a mass of steam piling out of the engine bay. So that's it, we'll start stripping it down tomorrow to try and determine what's wrong but we are thinking that it's lunched itself.

What a nightmare!!

I know you guys know the engine inside out so the work won't worry you, but these things always happen just before an event.

Nothing I can say will make things any better, but I do wish you all the best for getting it sorted in time.

Do you need to borrow my trailer now, since I sold your last one? ;)
