yep - thats the scarey part now 8-[

The only issue today was a little warmth in the coolant, oil topped out at 116C so fine there and everything else behaved.

Kev - I think you have a power advantage at the moment ;)

what a long day !!!

Post by duncan »

Well, arrived at Mocom at 9.30 am ready for today's activities and have been home about 30 mins :o

The plan for the day was to change the injectors for newly modified higher flow to give more headroom to add back the boost (and hopefully more)

Some highs, some lows but the long and short of it is that the drive home was rather quick - the STI is proper quick now :D

Unfortunately despite some serious fettling, the turbo would not make any more than 1.1 bar top end :( so no pub figures here.

The more bad news was that in order to get bigger and better figures I would need to change to a bigger turbo..... I guess I have found where the limit of the VF43 is :D

However, we did get a good 1.5 + bar through the rest and an almost instant spool up so will be great on track and with injector duty cycle way way lower than it was leaving plenty of headroom 8)

Bit of positive news. That's good. When will Dusty Bin be fitted?

Sounds good Dunc, it seems the way with the VF turbo's, you can really push them in up to teh mid range then they just tail off toward sthe top end, my VF28 is pushing 1.6 bar then drops to 1.2 bar at the top end. amkes for a good drive tho, as the low down grunt and spool is excellent :D

The car looks sweet now, apart from those 4 *FAKE* carbon flaps that just offer wind resistance :!:

Back to turbos, when at Steve Simpsons for my map I was speaking about the future upgrades to the car, and he was raving about the FP Green turbos, and even went as far as to say he reckons they have better spool than the hallowed MD321 series :!: :!: And they are a fair bit cheaper coming in at under 4 figures :!:

If you are after one Dunc, you are best to look at buying one dircet from the states, that shoild save you a packet! Think when I looked they wee circa 1300-1400 dollars. Thats was for the smaller of the 2 which should push 400bhp.

Thanks Logan (apart from the flaps comment ;) )

The turbo is spooling lovely at the moment hitting 22psi in a fraction of a second giving the kick in the back that the car was missing earlier in the week. Just a shame we couldnt get it to do anything more at the top.

Having said that, it does not feel anywhere near as strangled as it was with the previous set-up and revs/drives quite freely to the rev limiter.

and .... we may even have a bit of flamage now with it running slightly rich as it pops and crackles engine braking

Good stuff!

I must get a pax lap sometime in the 2.5, be interesting for me to see how it feels, then you must come out in my old un.

Myself and a friend who has a STI9 PPP did the same, and I liked the new-age, was smooth, but I could feel the extra weight. then he had a go in mine and reckoned it was a bit too lairy!!! hehehe, which its not really, as its not tuned up too much!

Mine pops a crackles on the overrun when the exhaust is hot, but no flames, only get them when the ALS is on 8) 8) 8)
