After a weekend blat to Stu's on Saturday, I was surprised at how much heat soak it suffered from after being stuck in traffic after an hour or so's run down the A11.
The symptoms (ECU threw no codes and ran Torque's fault code reader at the same time) where pronounced drop in power, and lethargy, and once it had been running at 40 or so for five minutes things returned to "normal".
I've been reading into it, and it seems the possible way of helping it would be to fit a vent in the drivers side wheel arch liner (like the 225 TT etc), and a cold air vent in through the bumper.
I know longer term, a front mount intercooler would be the way to go, but being a Turbo novice, don't know if this problem is exacerbated by poor design (What a place to stick an intercooler!) or by something that needs maintaining?
I'm not overly keen on a FMIC due to it pushing further away from standard spec and having insurance implications.

What about heat wrapping the manifold / downpipe to help keep the enginebay temps down ? Or getting them coated ?

Yes, you're right Rob. Poor design, and you can help that by ducting the front and venting the back. Anything else will be most costly than buying a front mount and getting a much better overall benefit.

Insurance premiums won't change much if at all because of a front mount. If they do, leave your insurance company because they will be pulling your pants down. (That same car was cheaper to insure modified than it was standard with the same broker)

Remove 20% of the weight and go for a straight line sprint  Similar 'gains' none of the cost assuming you don't use a hole saw or grinder............you can always lose the weight then get a remap too.....

I would have to agree. If you've spent money getting it right then you might as well keep it and lightly mod it. There's always an eliment of gamble when buying a new car. Just my thought.
