I have been thinking about putting vents in the bonnet to vent some of the air that the front grill hoovers up , the front grill looks great but its not aerodynamic in anyway . Chevy might have windtested the spoilers but the body wasn't so the big grill opening is big on drag . I made up some vents today and i might have gone a bit OTT with them , so iam putting up these pictures for some feedback . From some angles they look ok but from other veiws they look too big , opinions please . Pete

Some good skills there Pete:thumbs:

It;s really hard to say one way or the other about those vents from those pictures. When we were deciding on the postion of ours we took pictures from a distance to get a better view. Like this.

I like em pete, will look great flushed and painted, why not decide on position and get some one to photoshop them into the bonnet, one last look before the grinder gets let loose

Glad the brakes and carb are finally finished Pete. Bet you can't wait to get out on track now. The car will be transformed I reckon.

As for those vents, I'm not sure anything can look too big on a bonnet that size, and on a muscle car like that! Personally I think they look great, but the photoshop option is a good one to make sure you're totally happily.

Are you adding them becasue you think it would be a good idea to get rid of some of that air, or is there a particular issue you're trying to remedy? I remember you said they scoop up a lot when i was talking about my foldy up bonnet...

I like the look of them, but are they going to be doing much that far back? You're getting very close to the high pressure zone at the base of the windscreen, unless they're for letting heat out when stationary, I'm not sure they'll help much.

Theres a diagram that usually gets trotted out at times like this:

I will take that as a yes but need to find the right place to put them , thanks for the diagram Maff . I can see myself driving up the A11 with sellotape and string plastered over the bonnet in an attempt to find the right place to put them:D , i have a week off work and i will have to try it . I may end up making some different vents but Christian your right about the size of the bonnet and muscle cars are pretty outlandish anyway , just look at some of the Pontiac bonnets .
Iam doing this to vent some of the air from under the bonnet and also to remove heat that gets trapped under there , it doesn't take long for the temp gauge to rise in traffic and open the bonnet after just a 5 minute trip into town and its like opening an oven door . I have fitted an new rad , 16 inch fan and a 180 deg thermostate as i does worry me about all that heat .
Here is a link about the aero tests and spoilers that GM fitted to the Camaro http://www.camaro-untoldsecrets.com/art ... po_d80.htm
And here are some pictures of bonnet vents on pro touring Camaro's , these things get used on track Image

I have booked an evening track session at Snetterton on the 7th August and have put the vents a bit lower on my list of things to do . First on the list was a new MOT which the car passed with no problems or gripes about the parking/handbrake , i should hope not what with all the effort i put into the new brakes .
Second job was to change the gearbox oil as i recon it should be run in by now and plus i didn't like running it with the ATF fluid . I know a lot of manual gearboxs run on ATF but i wasn't keen on using it for doing track days , so i splashed out on some Redline MTL . After changing the oil i did about a 20 mile jaunt along the A11 and the box which is not the quietest manual did make less noise , difficult to tell if it changes better but i will find out on the 7th after a few laps .
Job number three was to bolt in a better towing point which i did using a strap fixed to the inner wing , i got access through a cutout in the front panel were the bumper was fitted . I also filled in the cutouts with some tin panels as they let air in the front , it sort of cleaned the front up from an airflow point of view .
And finally to get some cooling ducts rigged up for the front brakes . for that iam going to make up a new front spoiler out of Aluminium so that i can put in some duct vents , the old one is plastic and not strong enough for cutting about . I have made it a bit deeper but nothing to drastic and i need to get my finger out to finish it off .
This is how for iam with the spoiler , you can see the bumper cutouts that i filled above the brake duct cutouts

you can see here the tow strap poking out from the cover which is a bit dfficult to see here as its a black cover on a black panel , but it looks better and cleans the front up

Here is the new gearbox oil , 3 litres of it
