Damn, that's proper progress fella!, it's such an unusual front frame, never really thought about how it would be constructed.

You've certainly swung into action there chief, since the decision was made as to which way to go. Good stuff.

The simplified engine bay and extensive use of heat shielding will definately pay dividends long term.

My only word of caution would be around binning the lights, especially if you do it to the degree that they're not easily replacable. Only because many championships insist on stock lights for some reason - I remember when I was driving the old SE Nissan S12 Silvia in Mod Prods, we changed the pop ups and the scrutineers very nearly didn't let us run the car - which would've been a fookin nightmare as we'd trekked up to cadwell!! So leep at least one eye on usability of the car once finished, you may not want to do TA for ever.

Otherwise storming progress chief

Well today was a bloody howler up here, after only an hour working on the zed the heavens opened and the winds picked up, though strangely it didn't bother me today

the following is a bit picture heavy

so first things first, I got cracking on stripping down one of the turbos so that the housing could be sent of for machining

Image

Image

You can see here where the one housing inlet is larger than the other, God knows what the 'Zed specialist' in question was thinking?

Image

Stock engine mounts came off

Image

Image

Image

the stock mounts are being binned for a pair of AMS engine mounts

then it was back outside to start tackling the copious amounts of unnecessary Nissan pipework

first on the list was the PAS hard pipes

Image

Image

the PAS pipework literally runs all the way around the engine bay for no apparent reason other than to complicate things?

this has all been binned and a single length of hose will run from the PAS pot to an Evo 4 PAS cooler (mounted inside the front bumper) and will then run directly back to the rack

We will use a similar PAS cooler to this one

Image

*the JDM z32 doesn't come with a PAS cooler as standard so I figure it was easy enough to fit one as the engine was already out and the rack was easy enough to get to

the PAS pipes were all cut out and then we capped them off for protection until the cooler is fitted

Image

Image

next on the hit list was the clutch booster, this was inside the engine bay....

Image

this crap was tucked away outside the engine bay behind the drivers side fender

Image

all of this is now in the bin!

Image

all of the clutch hard pipes and 'T' pieces have now been removed and will be replaced by a single braided clutch hose that will run direct to the slave

then it was on to the spiders web that are the fuel lines....

Image

again, loads of excess pipework has been removed. The plan is to run new fuel hoses direct to the new Fuelab filter, fuel damper and Fuelab FPR bypassing all of the stock lines that have now been removed

temporarily capped off for protection

Image

more to come, I'm just uploading some more pics

then back into the workshop to give the AMS manifolds a quick wipedown

Image

there's quite a difference in size between AMS (top) and stock (bottom)

it's one of the reasons it's so packed in there, the zed in front mid engined with "everything" aft of the front wheels

This banjo bolt needed a bit of persuasion

Image

but a few taps with a BFH released it

http://s1034.photobucket.com/user/azineakinadan79/media/videos/IMG_0625_zps98fe5217.jpg.html

Image

The postie dropped these off this afternoon

Image

so the plan was to relocate both of these

Image

this is how it will all bolt together

Image

I'm pretty chuffed with this setup and it's 'mm' perfect

Yeah I'll keep them in a box just in case and won't cut out any of the required wiring but will run with the much lighter and simpler Westfield kit in the meantime
