Fair play mate. As you say, knowing that you've done it yourself counts for a lot. The little imperfections, if there are any, just show that it's YOUR car.

Let's face it.........when this thing is banging out 9 second passes, no-one will point out the odd run or fish eye will they

Well it may not look like I've done much but it's all been fiddly work. Started by buffing the paint in the engine bay to try and get it to shine a bit better and flatten it out, always worried about wearing through the paint

The next job was to get the other seat rail in and start to chip away at the sound deadening. I have heard a lot of people say they have taken this stuff out before and it's a pain but I had know idea how shitty the job really was

I thought I would try to put bodyfiller on some of the welds to tidy them up a bit and sand them down to see what sort of finish I could get but what a ball ache. It only took a couple of goes before I decided to give that brainwave a miss!!

Next job was to mask up the car again to put etching primer on the bare metal

I am off on holiday on Friday to Majorca so probably won't get to post anymore for two or three weeks but will keep you up to date as and when anything happens

Bloody sound proofing :o Why do we bother!

I think the engine bay has come up really well and your efforts with the overall quality will reward you in years to come. Enjoy your break mate. I've bet you've set up a webcam or similar so you can keep an eye on it whilst you're away

See you soon :wave2:

Well I had a great time on holiday, been back a couple of weeks and have been non stop prepping and spraying the floor and cage. I can't believe how long it has taken to spray the cage. 2 coats etch primer - 5 coats white primer - 7 coats pearlescent - 4 layers of lacquer

I have also treated myself to a new compressor as I had burnt the other one out and piped it round the garage for ease of use

I have some brackets to make up and weld the harness anchors to the body so I got myself a mig welder. I have never used one before but had a friend come round and show me how to use it so for the last couple of days I have been practicing welds and have been pleased with the progress. Once I am totally happy with the way the welds turn out I will start fabricating and fixing additional bits to the car

There's something to be said for having the whole car painted properly. That engine bay looks absolutely pukka!! Deeply jealous!! 8)

Echo what Stuart said about having the equipment, time, learning ability and some proper money to do it all. I just wish i had a decent compressor and mig welder. Oooh Heaven!! I'd give up recruitment tomorrow and go do something i really enjoy!! :D
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!
