I know its been a while since snett track day which was the first outing for the golf but this is where the story starts.
After all the building etc
On the first lap out the car felt good but didn't seem to rev hard after 5500 as it should.
Once the second lap was under way i noticed the water temp rising so checked the oil temp on the on board computer it was above 108 already then once it reached 6000 the timing was out so was pinking like mad.
so pulled it in and played about with the timing when i restarted it and reved it there was a firmilar rattle heard (subaru death rattle) after a few more rev's it was gone.
So back on track for the rest of the evening and what a blast that was taking corners quicker and quicker although the car didn't fill right.
The golf had developed a vibration at high speed but thought it was just geo set up.
After a excellent night packed the car up had some dinner and home.
Once the car was home had a good chance to go over the car and the rattle was there again so it had to be either big end or a rod bearing.
Was told the rods can be done while in the car so this was the first option so a trip to GSF for a new set of bearings
new project
Went into work last saturday with the intent of cleaning the car and tidying a few bits on it.
But then thought think ill change the engine as you do, it was sitting there all pretty and thought that would look nice in the golf.
The 2 litre ABF engine and gearbox is not a hard conversion to do but a bit fidderly.
The conversion consists of mk3 16v engine, gearbox, cable change gear shift, corrado pedal box so the car can convert to hydrolic clutch and master cylinder.
you use bits from both cars to make this work.
first thing remove old unit was in two minds as this engine is still in excellent shape.

Took about 2hours to get out labeled all the wires and ive never changed a front wheel drive engine before.

Next was to strip the interior out and the steering column so i could fit the new gear stick tower and fit the corrado pedal box.

steering column down and pedal box in with the hydrulic master cylinder fitted to the other side where you have to cut a 30mm hole in the bulk head.

so this saturday i got a chance to do the rest of the work started with cutting Another hole which had to be cut as well to put the cable gear change though as this would normally run under the car down the exhaust tunnel. But have fitted the tower change inside the car. Also cut the holefor the tower further back so less reach.

Then it was time to fit the new engine and box but had issues with one of the mounts being 10mm out the gearbox mount just wouldn,t go when your putting somthing that was not in there you don,t know what youv,e done wrong.
I had used the original engine mount on the back from my golf the gearbox and front mount from the mk3.
What i had done was the gearbox mount could fit in two places and i was a hole out.
Once i had found this out it was in.

Also repainted the inner wings. so hopefully by next saturday it will be complete fingers crossed it starts and runs.
