You can't really see a lot in this pic but this is the new wiring harness for the ecu :o

Image

LOTS of wires and very very close together.

As soon as the car is back from ABW it is time for a proper ECU...

Image

Solaris S6

Main features..

4 Individual Ignition and Fuel maps
Fully sequential control of fueling and timing.
Batch firing and wasted spark ignition.
Individual cylinder TDC definition
Idle control, closed or open loop
Cam control, closed or open loop, up to 4 camshafts.
Rpm limit : 20000 RPM
Fully configurable Data logging with individual choice of logging channels and frequencies.
Fully mappable Wastegate control, with gear dependent boost maps.
Launch Control - Retard and Fuel cut strategies.
Traction control - Fully programmable slip targets.
Drive by wire
Knock control
Full throttle shift cut - Open and closed loop, full programmable
Anti lag - 4 ALS Calibrations, EGT dependency, Jacked open throttle idle control, ALS Initiation strategy.
Full 3D mappable Nitrous control, Wet and dry systems.
Crankshaft/Cam Signal Oscilloscope with sync loss capture
User Programmable linearization of all sensor inputs.
Battery Voltage compensations
Upgradeable firmware
CAN Bus interface
Configurable I/O
Hall & VR Crank/Cam sensor compatible

Basically for me it means a few things:

1. I can run a 5th injector to add extra fuel needed for running 100% E85 (if that isnt a contradiction in terms)
2. Real time mapping
3. losing the MAF which is absolutely at it's limit at present and subsequently cannot control fueling as precise as I would like
4. Much more precision in the maps
5. switchable via a dash switch.
6. some toys such as ALS

I will also be able to switch closed loop fueling back on with input from my bosch wideband going direct to the ecu to control it - this should make it run a little smoother on daily duties and return better mpg.

I have no idea whether any additional power will be gained from this but I think the switch to pure E85 may net a small gain just from the higher energy. If it gets to 1200 combined bhp/torque then I will be over the moon but that is not the objective - I have enough power as is.

Presumably its MAP instead what sort of sensor? The VEMS use VAG ones iirc. And can you have one of the funky digital dashes with it?

Yeah it is MAP based. I am not sure on the MAP sensor used but will be using a 3.5 or 4 bar sensor.

The ecu can link into funky digital dashs.

Duncan, I'm very moist from reading all that, you lucky so and so. Looking very forward to hearing more about that!! :thumb:

I take it the package includes dedicated logging and RT tuning software.

Will it be fitted by the pro's and will you get them to do the first round of mapping/tunning so you have base claibrations to start from or is it all going to be completely DIY from scratch?

also......ball park figure
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Waiting now for another execution date!!:headhack:

Cracking bit of kit Duncan. I ran the S6 from Silverstone last year, and the Life version prior to that. I paid for mine and had surplus cash by selling my M800!

Speak to David Wallis, as he created a cheap G sensor or something, which is in my car but not fitted to the ecu, that would then allow for the data logging to give a track map!

You dont pay extra for the S6, it comes with all that as standard.

I know Steven - superb ecu from the looks of it and from seeing it in reality on yours. Kev Horsley didn't do too bad with it either :D

G sensor sounds fun 8)

right, back to some pics...

I decided that the old wheel just look like some chav in a saxo with a body kit on it so have borrowed some wheels from Paul @ Zen to try them on for size. These are wearing 888 rubber in the right size for me and were the right width and offset I believed.

Anyway, I took them down to ABW to test fit them on the car:

Spot on :D

and from above:

Again - perfect, the wheels will just tuck into the arches perfectly :thumb:

Side view to show what they look like:

Looks like these wheels will be staying - I love them :D
