Gents, i'm going to try and look at this at the weekend - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/794940.htm

The owner says the vanos isn't noisy and the clutch bites low, and the car has been undersealed, it's got a fsh and is completely standard.
As far as the Cat D damage goes, it had a front bumper respray, new bonnet and a new windscreen. More pics of this are on their way to me.

I know its not silver and hasn't got black leather like i originally said i was after, but its low mileage, the estoril blue has grown on me and the silver leather is just begging to be put on fleabay and replaced with a nice set of Recaro's!

If anyone has got any pointers/tips for me to look out for i would be very grateful. Had 3 e36's now so i know where to look for easy stuff like rust etc, notchey 2nd gear, leaky/noisy diffs, signs of vanos probs, electrics in-operable, but if there is anything else any of you m3 guru's would recommend to look for it would be much appreciated. :thumb:

Nothing guru like but;

Advise your insurer that you want to buy a Cat D write off. They will not (or shouldn't) load the premium but they will not pay out as much in the event of a claim due it's lower market value.

Resale will be tougher due to the write off

Cat D is decided upon in the event of an non-economic repair (ie 60% of the cars value) How on Earth does a bumper, bonnet and windscreen constitute more than 60% of that? When was the car written off? Assume that the car pre- write off was worth
