Update 2

Post by RPS13 »

I didn't get to spend much time on the Silvia today, as there was some work to do, and the daily driver needed a bit of TLC too, so just a quick update today.

Gave her a wash, but I struggled to get rid of the paint pen all over the windscreen. The girlfriends nails did the job but she didn't want to break them, so I need to find a clean plastic scraper of similar strength. Washing it made the wheels look even shinier if that was possible.

I also made the alluminium switch panel for the inside (no stereo in tis track car). This includes the switch for the rear fogs wired up on friday, but none of the panel wiring is done yet. I used some rocker switches with LEDs in that have been sitting unopened in the parts box for several years. The panel has plenty of space for more so can expand for battery cut offs and fire extinguishers etc when needed. ( I am still no sure about the sparkle paint, but there are much bigger things to sort out first)

It got too dark and I had some work to get done tonight so I still don't know what the JDM coke bottle does!

Looking very good Rob!!

Lovely car and great that someone else has put all the time effort and money into the car previously so you can just do a bit of tweaking here and there and then you are ready for some track fun!!

I think those front tyres wont last long with that camber though!! 8)

Nope - Look above the can (top right of the picture) and you will see the original washer bottle still there, good idea for some weight saving though.

WOW !!!!!!!

How can I have missed this thread !!!

Stu sent me the pic from the docks, and I tried calling him back but he's like the feckin scarlet pimpernell at the mo !!!

Im pretty sure Bens right, the bottle you think is the washer one os the expansion tank for the radiator, the washer bottle normally has a neck in one of those holes near the coke can and is underneth but thats where the FMIC pipework goes in S13 conversions so you end up having to faff around with other solutions - or just get rid completely like the Orange.

This will be awesome, mine was lovely when I first got it and used to be such a joy to drive.

If you are thinking of using it for track we are gonna be fitting some monster brakes on the orange 355's + 6pots up front and probably 320's + 4pots on the back so I'll let ya know how we get on if ya like.

I really look forward to seeing this in the flesh, its sooooooo like a car Glen imported a couple of years ago the french girl "Drift Angel" uses now.

Awsome !!

J. :D
I have issues !!! :ack2:....I used to be average, now I reminisce !!!

Thats the overflow tank for the radiator.

The washer bottle usually lives below the battery tray, where the intercooler pipe is now.

Doh! It has been a while since I had a car with a seperate header tank on the cooling system.

At least my mistake has identified another thing I can loose or change for weight reduction.

Update 3

Post by RPS13 »

Didn't have a lot of time this evening after work but got a few jobs done:

- Bought a set of ratty supra wheels (17 x 8 ) to add to the collection for some drift practice. 205s should stretch nicely on them. Still need tyres.

- Found a bit of plastic just the right consistency to scrape off the paint pen without scratching the glass. Still not an easy job but it is done now.

- Removed the center console again, to get the gear gaiter off. A friend who restores interiors in classic cars offered to make me a brand new one.

- Repainted the wiper arms that were worn to the bare metal. I like the look of the car without them but no chance of getting away with that in the UK.

- and lastly, I removed the random piece of plastic being used as a rear bulkhead. I will replace it and the parcel shelf with some much better fitted plain 3mm ABS panels. Very light and can be replaced with Carbon fiber sheets if I feel tarty or really anal about weight saving later.

Nothing exciting enough for photos, but a little more progress made.
