its not the measuring i would worry about.

its cutting a smooth and straight line and not slipping!

how often do you cut through metal by standing on the roof of a car? lol.

what tool are you using exactly?

will you need to cover the area with sellophane or tape?

looking at the pikkies in the other thread, it looks like any minor mistakes will be covered by the seal or the actual lid?

i can't wait to see this!! lol.

just make sure you use plenty of masking tape around the area you are cutting if you are using a jigsaw to cut it out put some masking tape on the bottom of the plate so it does damage or mark you paint work as its moving across your roof, no i have not cut out a hole in a roof but cut out plently of sink hole and and cooker holes in some pretty expensive worktops lol

The roof will be covered in 10" masking tape..

Im going to drill the centre with a small holesaw then cut around it with a set of tin snips.. not right to the edge though.

Then clean the edge with a sanding drum on a air powered dremel.

It should be fine :D

EDIT

SCRAP THE ABOVE COMMENT!!

Im using a dremel as i decided against tins snips for fear of buckling the roof lol

lol..

Ive decided against the snips idea Steve as im worried i may buckle the roof with snips.. I think id rather take my time with a dremel and a small cutting disc. That way im pulling the roof about as little as possible.

Thanks again for the offer of measuring yours however i dont think it will offer me much as you will still have your headliining in place. The holes are goverened by where the internal bracket sits. The hoes are already there in situ andyou kinda cant get it wrong if you know what i mean.

Check out this thread on nasioc and you'll see what i mean.

If i do need ya i have you number still..

Cheers again buddy.. just gotta get her back from ABW now and i can get the tin opener out :D

Just ordered myself a speedware stainless harness bar too.

Ive wanted one of these for ages and i think they make harness install in the impreza a much nicer/ cleaner job.

No the camera mount nor the young lady are included :D
