Re: Pete's Camaro
Auto electrics scare the crap out of me
. Good luck with sorting it all out, better that you found it now than later.

Re: Pete's Camaro
I've just been removing parts of a very similar looking loom in my camaro pete. I was going to fit a new fusebox/loom but dont want to take the car off the road to do it. Maybe next year.
Do you still have your original plastic front spoiler? Have you got any further updates on the build? I just re-read all 26 pages lol

Yes 45 year old wiring looms can be a bit of a birds nest and worse when they have been mucked about with . Changing the fuse box isn't too bad once the dial cluster is out of the way and the steering column is unbolted . A lot of the wiring can be disconnected leaving just the fuse box and the main lump of wires behind the dials , like most looms its a bit awkward to get to but not too difficult .evildave wrote:I've just been removing parts of a very similar looking loom in my camaro pete. I still have the front spoiler and might refit it as i don't like the one i made as the ducts work well but are in the wrong place so i might remake it , so i will probably keep it for the time being .
Not much in the way of updates as iam still deciding what i need to order from Summit . One thing i have done this year is to grow some splendid roses because i haven't needed to trim them back to get the car out of the garage , as rose thorns on black paint is not good .
Here's one for the gardeners .

I have also bought a pair of Brembo's for the front but thats for much later . Pete
Re: Pete's Camaro
Nice roses but surely you need a cactus or something like that for authenticity

Re: Pete's Camaro
I've just had a week off work so i ordered some parts to give me something to do ,so a box of engine bits arrived from the states . I have a new high lift cam + tappets ,timing chain and sprockets , valve springs ,oil filters and various bolts and gaskets .

I found out that i could use LS motor springs to match the cam by using a different retainer which is handy because the springs allow more lift without having to machine the heads . The old springs would only go to 450 thou before having to machine the spring seats whereas the LS ones will go to 520 thou , the cam lifts to 470 thou so there's loads of clearance and also the spring poundage is real close to what the cam manufactures specs require .

I never gave much thought to the oil i used other than it being 20/50 or also what filter to go with it , i always used Fram filters as they were easy to get and to me one oil filter is much the same as another . After doing some searching on the US sites they recon that Fram filters are not that good and to use something else . The circle track racers cut open their filters to check for engine debris and don't like how the Fram filters are put together , so on what they use i brought some Wix filters , 2x regular filters for running in the engine and 2 racing filters for trackdays .

I need to finish off the fuel system so i have ordered a regulator and filter which should be in the post for Tuesday , i need to get my finger out as its nearly next year .

It's been 10 months since i last drove it so iam a bit keen to get it done , so what have you done to your motor then Dave .evildave wrote:Great work pete, can't wait to see it all up and running! My motor should be trial assembled next week.
Gave the heads a good clean and fitted the new valve springs and then bolted them on the the engine , i found it easier to stand in the engine bay to torque the head bolts up than to lean over the front wings.

Re: Pete's Camaro
Long story short, it was a piece of junk and died on me after 20 odd miles. Now having a + 040 bore, eagle crank, rods, pistons, comp cam and timing set etcetc should make over 500bhp.

Good luck with the new lump and 500hp sounds like a nice round number .evildave wrote:Long story short, it was a piece of junk and died on me after 20 odd miles. Now having a + 040 bore, eagle crank, rods, pistons, comp cam and timing set etcetc should make over 500bhp.
The fuel regulator and filter arrived today and they are a bit more bling looking then stuff i normally buy , so i will have to get some matching red fittings and braided hose .
