I've always used Porterfield R4 pads and never had any trouble with them on the GTR. They're consistent in bite, feel and stopping power and I've genuinely never got a soft pedal.
They also sorted the braking out on my old E46 M3 when I decided to do a few track days in that although were squeaky on the road. Never squeaked in the GTR on the road though.
I've just put a new set on but have been looking into this and there are 2 new Ferodo models out which are supposed to be very good. I'm going to try the DS Uno, but the DS 1.1 (? I think the others are called) are similar spec. Much better than performance all round than the DS 3000 which was the default Ferodo track pad for years.
Oh, and definitely duct them, Merlin and DT do flexi brake duct pipe if you can't find any hoover pipe.

Scott, went out on Snett yesterday with stock RZ callipers, stock discs, hawk pads all round and high temp fluid. Baring in mind I generally drive at full attack all of the time, I didnt get any fade, any judder or any other negative effects apart from the dust! However, I waxed my wheels with some high temp stuff that Stuart recommended and the dust basically fell off with the pressure washer on them.
I really cant knock the hawk pads for stopping performance. Very impressive and loads of confidence. Well priced too.

£80 a set. Very reasonable for the performance.
EDIT: They work on the road as well. Its not one of those pads you have to put heat into before you get any stopping power.
