Cheers John, you too chap.
Had a thoroughly enjoyable day today. Great to meet Stu (Bealo) at long last and his CSL buddies, and also to catch up with Stu (staples) and John B. It seems ages since a did a trackday with a bunch of good lads and cars all packed in a garage and it was really good fun.
The day went well all in. I spent most of the morning messing about with tyre pressures and suspension settings as so much has changed since I was out with malc - Tyres, Geo, Rear suspension components etc - and I couldn't seem to get it feeling good, felt liek I was struggling.
However, Malc was actually at Snett with a client and had rigged up a spare Data Logger which showed that I wasn't really any slower than last time out. Was great to see Malc there and he was as helpful as ever, even though he was with another client. Rigged up the Data Logger, kept popping over to see how it was going and offer advice, and also to whip the card out and analyse the data. For me this shows the difference between someone you hire for the day and someone genuinely enthusiastic and willing to help you out. I can't speak highly enough of Malc.
By the afternoon i seemed to have cracked it and was getting the GTR properly hooked up again, my Performance box read a flat 2 min 10 (still on low boost (which is becoming my favourite saying haha)) so my time had improved, although unfortunately the Data wasn't logged on Malcs stuff.
The day didn't end so well after my Dad swung back into the pits after a fairly short stint claiming there was an issue with 3rd gear. I took it out and this was a bit of an understatement. 3rd was pretty fucked. Went in Ok but made a right old racket as soon as you touched the throttle. Was ok with no gas though. I know as much about gearboxes as i do about tyre pressures and suspension settings but even i realised this meant it was time to go home (without 3rd gear)
Observations from today were:
Really pleased with the car again, it was making me smile and that's what it's all about. Minor (?) gearbox issue aside it behaved, all temps etc were spot on all day.
Michelin Pilot Sport Cups don't seem to offer anything over the Khumo's, although I'll reserve that until I do a full day with them working properly.
Bealo's porker is an absolute beast!! Sounds amazing, looks mega fast up the pit straight, I want a go!!
Sure there's more but I'm knackered and off to bed as flying to zurich in the morning
