the weekend was a bit of a frustraiting one really as some things were going well and others not so.

we pulled out half way through the day as the car was over heating, as it was a frantic day we missed the most bloody obvious thing to check which was the thurmostate, we checked it on the sunday and it only opened after paul boiled the kettle then it opened but not by much.
it was supposed to be a compertition thermostate that opened at 72degrees.
it was a good call not to run anymore and to actually find out what was happening away from any distractions on the saturday.
we are not going to run a thermostate anymore which gordon said is not a problem apart from it will take bit longer for engine to warm up and come off cold start.

cadwell park is a good track to drive BUT with that many cars out at the same time it was hard to find any space to get a clear lap and also the weather change so often from, sun to rain to hail it was untrue.

as i said the best thing from the day was that the front end stuck like hell and it was great as we now know we have sorted the area of the car so its now time to look at other area's not to improve the car.

Did you have problems with the timing gear as I kept looking for you on the live timing site but you weren't showing up.
Shame about the thermostat but at least you've got it sorted with no damage done.
When's the next round?
Tony.

It really was a difficult weekend right from the start. In fact the only thing that went right was the oil change that Alan did to the frontera.

Seeing Alan lead the pack out onto the track for the first session of the first round of the 2012 season reminded me why I do this.

On the Friday before Cadwell we spent the day getting the car ready, mainly cleaning it and applying this seasons stickers. Finishing touches were also made to securing of the front bumper and also to the fitment of the spare bumper. We collected the trailer just after 4pm and finally had the car all loaded by just after 6pm.

Alan left just after half six and about 10min later I had a very abbusive text from Alan wanting me to phone him. He was stuck by th eside of the road about a mile from mine with a broken gearbox and no credit on his phone to call the RAC.

I had to phone the RAC for him and also gave Wayne a ring to see if he could assist Alan. He was eventually towed back to mine by the RAC and then Wayne had to give Alan a lift home, by now it was almost 10pm and we were leaving at 3am the following morning.

This now changed all our plans and in the morning I then had to load the Frontera before Wayne got round as he was going to help with the final bits to be loaded. We then set off to meet Alan who was going to walk to his local shell garage where we filled up the jerry cans before heading off to cadwell.

Me and Alan took the gearbox out of his car the day after Cadwell and yesterday Alan and Wayne fitted the new box.....so Alan's a slightly happier man again.

Which car had the dead gearbox? Al's normal Sierra or the race car? You guys certainly get your fair share of aggravation.

It was Al's daily drive that had the gearbox failure. The joys of owning older cars, but at least it only cost
