We did 3rd gear just the same in our drag car a few years back now. Isn't that Redline oil good stuff to clean off

Image
The only photo I have seen of a built up box where it deosn't look massive!

keep the photos coming!

Yea that blue Escort was a full on drag car with some crazy engine in it. I did beat him just before the line :) :) . I think he got 11.5 or something but his 60 ft was amazing. I have the slip i will have to check it.

Yea i was so lucky at silverstone as i was about to go for another lap and then the ending would be very different.

George. That redline is an nightmare to clean off. I used a parts washer and it done it all for me in 20 min's  The box does look small there but we all know how big and heavy they are. I finished building it in the photo about 8 ft from my shed and had to carry the thing to it. Bloody hurt. Should of built it in the shed

Just cant wait to get it back on the road again. It hasn't moved since June the 15th when the box blew up.

Just got to get on with the mapping and get that power back so i can get in the 10's in a full weight road car whilst driving it there and back. :D

Finally got the bits for the gearbox. So i put that back in today and all works fine really happy. I rebuilt the throttle bodies and inlet manifold the other day as i was having idling problems. All ran sweet today and is pulling like a train.

I have also just recieved some special cams from ebay. One off HKS step 2/3 cams 280d with 9.15mm lift. They turned uo from Japan in just 3 days :o

I can't just put them in as yet as the base circle is 2mm smaller then the stock cams so the clearance's will be way put. I will be heading to Abbey tomorrow to use one of there spare heads to check out what is actually needed to install these cams.

Cant wait as pushing 600bhp from stock cams has made the car have a really short powerband 5500-8000 rpm. They should increase spool up and finally let the engine breath.

Then i can start mapping again and get that mean lumpy idle i have always wanted.

Yesturday was a nightmare. I done 60 miles to pick up the fclogit box and i couldn't borrow it as it was still in use. SO i can't map the car till i have the little box of tricks.

And then i drove all the way to Abbey where Tony and I went about checking the cams out. We put them into a stock head and low and behold they where massive lift cams. The locked up in the head due to the lenght of the lobes. I brought them as 9.15mm lift but they are more mile 11.25mm lift. On the Gtr's if you go above 9.8mm ish in lift you have to machine the head to allow for the longer lobes. These cams will also need uprated buckets and springs to keep it all together. I reckon it will cost me well into

Yeaaaaaa all sorted and ready to start adjusting the map:) I can now map the car in the comfort of my house with the logged data. There is a specail spread sheet which i have downloaded where you paste the results into it and then paste your wanted afrs into another and it works out the correction value that you put into the map. Copy and paste it into the mapping software and then just load it into the ecu:)

The gearbox is so mush stronger now. It spins the wheels all the way up too 3rd and even 4th keeping it on boost. The boost used to drop off between gear changes and you had to wait for it to come back on. I reckon that will now get me in the 10s along with the anti lag off the line :D

Here are the logged afrs to start with

Well i took the car to work last night to continue mapping. I thought at 3am on the M3 would be perfect but the battery died on the maptop before i even got there so i couldn't log my afrs. The car is pulling like crazy now. Put it this way just getting on boost in 3rd now spins the wheels going down the motorway last night.

As the laptop was dead i thought i would sort the boost controller out as the settings are well of. The gain was in the 30's so i knocked it down to the recomended 10 and the boost went from a poorly holding 1.5 bar to 1.8 :o So i have set high boost for 1.6 and low at 1.4 but will add more when i get on the dyno.

I cant get over how fucking quick it is now compared to when it was going round silverstone. It brain fucking material as it pull's so hard on boost now but there is still more to come. I have to do a bit of fine tuning on the afrs and then start with the ignition timing. It even comes on boost a little sooner now. :D :D :D

Just going off the injector duty now on 1.6 bar with the fueling correct and learner it works out to around 670bhp but i doubt that but feels faster then the old 600 bhp

Good stuff mate and hats off to you for doing it all yourself. I can only dream of having that sort of knowledge.

Good luck in your quest for 10 sec 1/4.

Well getting there. This is the afr graph for 1.6 bar now. Needs fine tuning but i need it to be on a dyno to hold it in certain cells. I will keep playing with it but it is close to where i want it. I just have to do the cursing speeds and around town stuff to make it have a better MPG. Doing this mapping i have done

Well yesturday was fun

Got up after about 4 hours sleep from a vodka redbull session. Got in the car and removed all the mapping equipment as i'm happy with how it is at the moment also to save a little weight. Started to drive to the pod in the rain wonderiing if it was a good idea. Nearly run out of fuel and couldn't find a shell garage anywhere near the pod. Ended up in the bp petrol station filling it up with 97 ron :( but i thought a little octane booster will sort that. Ended up buying the same stuff that ruined my day at shakespear and was really nervous about putting it in the tank but i read the instructions and done it correctly. :D

I had to park the car in a muddy field and walk through the sludge for 10 mins to sign on. Started to walk back to the car to get it in the cue. Got to the car went to sit down and put the biggest rip in my jeans around the crutch area   . They open the strip but it started drizzling and they had to stop the track and wait for it to dry.

Then it was my turn on the strip. I done a massive burnout and staged the car. Launched of the limiter again and lit all 4 wheels up by the time it got traction i was on the limiter again. Hit 2nd and lit all four wheels again and started to step out but i kept my foot in for the glory. Hit 3rd and bang :o It snapped of again and that was that.

I was really gutted as the car was flying after the bad start and it has never been going that quick by the end of 2nd. I really thought that was going to be a really good run until it snapped 3rd before half way up the strip. I coasted to a 14.1 @72 mph that shows how quick the car was going.

Here is a vid of the run and only run of the day. You can see that it strip's 3rd quite a while before the 1/8 mile markers
http://img532.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 002gc8.flv

Drove the car home again with no 3rd. Getting used to this now

I even done some pikey racer graphics on the back of the car before i done my run for good humour.
