It lives!

It's alive!!! :P :P

For about 10 seconds until the union on the new Oil Cooler let go and dumped oil everywhere. Oh well.

Still, apparently we've hiked the power somewhat - the rebuilder reckons it's good for 400 at the wheels now. Which is nice. We'll see in any case.

Who needs those pesky cats anyway? And those rough edges in the inlet tracts...nasty, nasty, just had to go...Dick was certainly quite pleased with the results.

400 at the wheels seems a pretty good gain James, you must be delighted?

Was that a 'seat of the pants' dyno or based on previous engines worked on? I know the V8s are capable of great gains with improved breathing but that is a big gain. Great news :thumb:

Is this engine builder based near you? I know Dan is considering other options for his TVR stuff.

Ooh, no, nothing as reliable as a dyno. And that was a typo - 400 at the crank is more like it. And if truth be told, I'd be delighted with that. :P :P

But the engine guy is one of those old gnarly fen blokes, who seems to know his onions, and has 3 lads (all in their 40s and 50s) working for him.

We reckoned we'd see another 25-30 simply from refreshing it (up from say 350), 15-20 from the decatting, and 20-25 from the head work, along with the previous gains from exhaust/filter work. - I think 400 at the wheel is probably optimistic, but it'll have 80 bhp more than before, and before it went like a scalded wildcat. But most of that is down to weight, or the lack of it.

My personal estimate - 400-420 at the crank, 360-370 at the wheels. But we'll dyno it and find out...

It should be great fun across the fens James at whatever power it finally has.

Is this going to venture onto the track in the new year?
