Coltishall Track Day Follow Up

Post by goodap »

Well I dont really know where to start!

What a fantastic and well organised day and a fantastic track to boot. The mix of fast/slow corners was just right.

The grouping and session system worked really well. Although when I pulled into our group, me being a complete newbie to trackdays was amazed to be joined by a Ferrari 360. I thought I was a little under power and a little out of my depth:lol:

But all that power on a wet track and what happens? Yes Mr Ferrari Man you will spin and the subaru will just keep going at almost the same pace as in the dry, which resulted in any rear wheeled drive car being at a complete disadvantage, oh why didnt it stay wet!

Well I learnt a number of things today, and it was really exciting to see what my scoob can really do away from public roads! Anyone who has never taken your car on a track really should, its a big an eye opener

Main lesson learnt were:

The brakes are rubbish new pads and braided hoses are about to be ordered as after five laps coming upto a corner pushing 120 and no brakes is scary.
The scoob generates alot of understeer, controlled but needs tweaking New set of coilovers on the way
You should always check your tyres before going out on the next run, not rely on the car next to you to point out that your tyres shouldnt be down to the metal wire. (Someone in our group)
Dont paint your wheels, just before the day as they will flick paint everywhere! (Dannyboy Scoobycity)
And if your a passenger and your going to be sick, its nice to let the driver know

A Fantastic Day, and a big thank you to all the organisers. Pics and Vids to follow

Sounds like a top day, wish i could of got the time off(gutted), only up the road. Cant wait to see the pics and vids.

Track days are great cause no matter how good you think you are at driving on the roads, as soon as its on the track its a different story.

Paul - did you not get pads and hoses on the group buys I organised?

Sounds like an awesome day and that you all had fun even if there were a few casualties mechanically.

ps - dont forget it was probably the fluid that boiled rather than the pads burning out, so would be worth upgrading that too. I changed all three elements on mine having had not much braking at the end of the straight at snetterton.

Both days were fantastic, but also totally different. Organisation was top notch, and there is a possibility of persuading Jason to organise another one before the base finally closes :-D

The range of cars and abilities was huge (and didn't nessesarily match) but I think a greaat time was had by all.

Dispite a few mechanical difficulties on the first day I still managed to get over 200 track miles in :o :o

No unfortunately duncan I didnt take the group buy up.At the time the scoob brakes seemed plenty good enough for anything Ive done on the road in the scoob, but the track day really highlighted the weakness. I cant remember exactly but Im sure there were 5-6 corners where you were braking hard down from triple figures plus another handful of corners at 60-70ish. Agreed that its probably the fluid that boiled over will check with the boys at APT what went in, Im sure we put in 5.1, put perhaps theirs something better? Managed to make the car last longer on the later sessions, but in them sessions the brakes were
really smoking when I came in.

So an upgrade is needed of pads, fluid and hoses, before the next track day whenever that is, would imagine it will be next year now, so plenty of time :-D
