I think there were more red flags today than the whole of last season. Great battle in Pro Extreme class between Olly Clark and Andrew Gallergher putting laps of 53.966 and 54.303 respectively for 1st and 2nd places.
Yep it certainly looks wet up there mate, did you travel up to watch?
From what I can tell from the time sheets on the TA website, Kevin Jones in his Noble (Club RWD) recorded a 1:08 during warm up which was 5 seconds quicker than his nearest Club RWD rival Umar, and despite it being wet he was only 4 seconds off the pace of the quickest 4WD Evo in Club class which recorded 1:04 during the warm up.
In Practice he reduced that to 1:07 with quickest 4WD only 2 seconds quicker at 1:05.
In Qualifying he pulled a 1:04 with quickest 4WD recording a 1:01 with Umar at 1:09
and in the Final he recorded a 0:56.4 with quickest 4WD recording a 0:54.8 (however in the Final Umar seems to have managed to close the gap to just a second or so at 0:57.2 so clearly a monumental effort there on his part!)
Obviously Kevin Jones is perfectly entitled to enter his Noble in TA Club class as it's a road going car and it makes for an entertaining event for spectators however it still doesn't seem entirely fair to me as the Noble is effectively (I believe) a space framed/full FRP bodied/track derived car, which I dare say weighs in at around 1000kg as standard and much less when trimmed down for competition.
It's kind of like Mo Farrah entering the parents cross country event at his kids school sports day, yes he's a dad and yes he should be able to compete but at the end of the run the rest of the mums and dads would probably be thinking it a tad unfair whilst he's Mo'botting up and down the field in celebration
Watched the live timing from the comfort of my recliner whilst taking notes. Club class is rapidly getting/got to quick and will be interesting to see if they inforce the 5% rule. But it is what it is and the joy can know be had by thinking. Yep your £30,000+ (bought) car is a bit quicker than my £10,000 (home built) car.
You would actually be surprised at the bhp of the top club class 4wd cars
Thats part of why, imo, that FWD class is growing and 4WD class struggles to get the numbers. Not knocking anyone (and if I could afford it i'd be tempted to do the same). The Subaru Legacy, a very nice and well sorted car and not lacking in bhp.
Entered a round last year as a ohw in club pro....then entered the next round as a ohw in club class. Then over the winter has had a new engine built, wide arch body kit, new wheels, suspension etc etc. Just to try and win club class.
