My first sprint

Post by garetgax »

Well today was my first sprint event at Elvington in the Scoobysprint championship. didnt think I was going to get to do this this year due to work stuff. Anyhow the day was great left home 7.30 a.m and arrived at Elvington having got lost once at around 9.30. Made the fatal error of filling up around 15 miles from the track so had to run the whole day with a full tank. Note to self dont do it again next round  .

Anyway signed on and followed the field and walked the track even though it really made nooooooooo difference at all to me knowing which way to go :o .

11.00 a.m cars are lining up at the start line for what i thought was a sighting run..................nearly didnt take my helmet....turns out its my 1 and only practice run. My heart is now seriously letting me know its in my chest. Well this is what I came here for so I might as well get on with it.

Practice run....I was all over the place didnt know where to turn in and the last corner really didnt go well ( it was the corner everyone struggled with well most anyhow). result just under 9 secs behind andy forest.

Well as the day got hotter I gradually worked out the top corner and that bottom corner! My time didnt quite match what I thought about each run and my third run taught me not to try to hard as it was terrible.

Had a awesome time, got interviewed on camera whilst i was in the car waiting for my final run and every third word was "AWESOME" which is a bit embarrassing but I really did have a great day.

Finished 28th overall out of 34.

Good result Graham. Well done. 9 seconds behind Andy F is nothing to be ashamed of

Gerry ended up 5.6 secs behind andy and 7.7 behind the prodrive car. Was measuring myself against a couple of cars running similar spec to mine and I was a second or so out. So I have a target for the next one.
