Castle Combe June

Post by MiKa »

Just back from Auto Express tyre test so update delayed.

I came third in class of about a dozen.

Hard to reckon how good that is.

I was first SBD but then I was the only one

I was first on 1A's so that's good as most were on 1Bs

I was beaten by a mile by a Noble with 450bhp, enormous 1Bs and a good pilot. Second was a hot Cossie that transferred from another class so I think it had no interior. Lost out by 3/10ths.

V odd classes down there with 1Bs, no interior and VX220s in roadgoing sports and saloons.

Happy with result and circuit's great.

Given up on SBD as I can't win it even though I am still leading overall. There is just not enough people registered in my class and that's the key as you get .1 for every registered contender beaten. One guy already has 1pt in .1s and I have around .6 and little prospect of more.

Annoying as I beat 16 at Abingdon ,10 or so at Castle Combe etc. but no recognition of it in championship. Shame as SBD has great venues but lousy scoring system when registrations are down.

Shoulda had a proper punt at it last year.

It was tough competing against competitiors on 1B tyres at Castle Combe, i came 12th out of 15...... As well as the disadvantage with regard to tyres, I also had a few comitment issues into quarry corner (forgot to take my big bollox) :) Should be faster next time!
The south west do like to run funny regs/class sturcture/capacity structure; I had the same thing at Longleat Hillclimb on Saturday, Me & John Start were the only guys in our class on 1A tyres, all the rest were on 1B's....I came 5th out of 6 & had high hopes of going faster on my 2nd run & getting ahead of the B22 Scoobie, but rain meant my 2nd timed run was never going to be quicker :(

I don't mind getting beaten, but it's really hard work trying to compete when there is a noticable difference in mechanichal grip. In future i'm going to have to study regs very carefully before entering events......... I haven't yet made my mind up on whether to avoid these events in future, or simply bite the bullet & get some more wheels & a set of Proxy 888's so i can have a level playing field at the odd event......

Logan; as a Sevenoaks Motor Club member I was given the option of competing & scoring points at either Castle Combe or Goodwood on 28/6, & as Kim was at Coombe i don't thin he can have done Goodwood too (unless Goodwood was over both days that weekend)
