hi guys, just something to think about but prova motorsport used to do a track day at sculthorpe airfield near fakenham, they stopped because they said there wasnt enough interest in the event. I think this would be a fantastic trackday, prova used to set out a normal track around the airfield and also used to use the main runway for top speed runs (the runway is just as long as bruntingthorpes). Is this something that the boys at big power would be interested in? I know I would, if so how do you think we could get it going.

Sounds like a great idea. Will Prova still be involved?

I used to attend their sessions, i think some of the problem was the base being used for deployment of troops to iraq so there was lots of training going on.

I checked the site out a while ago via Prova but found it bumpy and stoney the site was a little uncared for.
With a clean up it could be a good local venue.
I seem to recall the licence for the site is with another organisation now like a car club for sprints and trials?

I still think the best place around here for 1/4 mile 30-130 and top speed is RAF Woodbridge.....think it has the joint longest runway in England.

No offense but we already have Snetterton very local with a great surface and proper corners and with whom we have a great relationship.
Marham is also local and we are there in april.
I think Prova stopped using it for the right reasons.

I met Tim last year to discuss this and never heard another thing. Lack of demand? Sounds like bollocks to me. He has my number if he wants to sort an event out, but we have TDO's and venues lining things up throughout most of the year (Have a look at the calendar and see what I mean)
As Dunk and the guys have already said, the venue is nothing special and Marham and the likes knock it into a cocked hat. As airfields go Brunters and Marham have better facilities and the race tracks, whilst dearer to hire, still tick more boxes.
Thanks for your interest, and please do not take my negative comments as critical of you. It was more a reaction to Prova and the complete lack of uptake on their part after the meetings we had last year. They talked a good game but that was about it. Not the sort of thing that goes down well on this forum.

Thats the problem with snetty its a bit of a love/hate track, many people say they think its a good track and other people I have chatted with say its just all right handers and a long strait and think its a bit boring.
Personly I love it but I do like a new challenge now and again and its nice not having to drive to far to find it. Its a shame that sculthorpe is a bit neglected as it would be a good laugh.

Snett is a great track and only becomes boring if you're not trying hard enough or you're in a car that is fundamentally slow. The new circuit layout (eta 2009?) will spice things up no end
As for other local-ish tracks, Marham is well worth a go as is Honington, another RAF base near Thetford.
Oh yeah.....the guys that say Snett is all right handers.........I take it they crash a lot

I do like Snetterton but can find it a little boring if you're lapping on your own, except for coram I could do it over and over again.
