Just found this on another motor site. Basically it's now one strike and you're out. Plus, limits are tougher for bank holidays:

For immediate release: Friday, 1 February 2008

Noise Levels at Bedford Autodrome

This release is to clarify the situation regarding noise limits at Bedford Autodrome. In the past there have been some occurrences of cars operating without fully respecting the limits and more stringent measures are now being taken to ensure compliance.

It is important that Bedford Autodrome operates not just in compliance with its planning permission limits but also to minimise any disturbance in the local community. Noise can travel a long way, particularly in certain climatic conditions.

The noise limits at Bedford Autodrome will remain unchanged at 101dB(A) static (measured 0.5m from the exhaust at a 45

Well...in which case i see Bedford becoming less popular with track day enthusiasts because a lot of cars do have some noisy exhausts and thats part and parcel of the car. And the squealing tyres rule is just ridiculous!! :o

It's a race track made for race cars, and the rules are becoming silly. If you choose to live near a race track that's been there perhaps for longer than you have then you expect a bit of noise, loud exhausts and squealing tyres. If you don't like it then don't live there, or move away. It's just the same for living near an airport or under low flight paths. If you don't like it don't live there!!

However, i would just love to live next to Silverstone as i love the noise!! I've stayed at Whittlebury Hall which is right next to Silverstone and the noises coming from there were awesome!!

I don't know if there are any noise limits there but i really wouldn't mind at all :D

You would feel pretty cheesed off if your exhaust passed the static test but failed the drive by as that is your trackday well and truly over, plus the monies you have paid go down the swanny!! It's a bugger really if you are black flagged on the first one or two laps!! What do you do then?? I would never go back to Bedford if that ever happened to me!!

It really is such a shame, Bedford is a superb circuit. The staff really are anal about noise though. I have been asked to leave once when the noise monitor was clearly set off by a group of cars. This was at 11am after paying

Is it not about time that these circuits actually did something to help drivers assess their car noise levels. A lot of tracks now offer or carry out static noise testing. But how the hell are we supposed to what our drive by readings are unless we get blacked flagged.

Why do they not offer the option of having your car drive by tested, even for a slight charge. That way you could attend a noisey day get your car tested and everyones happy.

I'm thoroughly peed as I'm literally 15 mins. down the road and love the place.

To answer ScoobyWRX, unfortunately, B/A is an old WWII airfield that has only been a car circuit for a few years, not sure but definitely less than 10 since Johnathan Palmer began to develop it. So, in fairness to the miserable, moaning, locals, they werre there first in this instance.

Trouble is with the place, it depends on which way the wind is blowing and how fast. My car has no problem with the static test but, depends on prevailing wind and conditions as to whether I get black flagged or not.

Goodwood, Donnington, Castle Combe are the same except they're established race circuits that are now at the mercy of the piggin' P effin' C brigade.

In defence of Bedford's policy, which is like others, imposed by the local councils, you can go along, by prior appointment and have your car noise tested, both static and drive by. But, someone else will drive your car for the test.

Gerry.

Is it true that the noise monitors are linked to the local council offices? Have heard that from Bedford marshals but seems a bit of a tall story!

Also if you know where the noise monitors are you can tread carefully

I think JP probably should have researched the potential problems with the site prior to setting up a motorsport centre. That is if his primary objective is indeed motorsport....?

I hear what you're saying Gerry and fair comment on the time the place has been a circuit etc..., however, it still doesn't detract from the fact that even if the car passes the static test, and you fail the drive by test, your money and your day is down the drain.

Most ordinary and non-clued-up people in fairness wouldn't have any idea how many db their exhaust is, wouldn't have had it checked prior to attending either as all they are doing is going for a days hack around a track in safety. It probably wouldn't even have occured to them to give noise limts a second thought thinking their car is OK, and it turns out not to be.

I can see lots of people getting caught out by that, and Bedford Autodrome's rep going south.

It's a shame because i think it's a fantastic circuit, with plenty of run off area ( and god only knows i've needed it :D ). I've had the pleasure of driving many laps of the whole GT circuit in my Scoob and a Monaro VXR8, and it was the sort of drive you'll never ever forget. Great place, just a big shame about the very restrictive rules!!

I don't know how true the noise monitor - council link is but they have to submit the print outs for inspection.

Goodwood marshalls will tell you where to ease off along the circuit and their drive-by is 98 dB iirc. Donnington wouldn't tell me, when I asked. I had three goes, changed to a quieter exhaust and even turned down the boost but they still reckoned I was 100+ and was chucked off.

I imagine JP's bulk income comes from his corporate bashes where he supplies the cars to a bunch of wannabees on a jolly sponsored outing. Just as the organiser shoves the contract under their nose and says "Sign here!"

Maybe a group buy on Frayz style quiet systems is in order?
