Open Discussion - finalising JISC 2008

Post by Sprint Chief »

Hi everyone, firstly thanks to Duncan and Stuart for hosting this forum and sorry I haven't been around much of late!

I haven't submitted the final rules and calendar to the MSA yet so there are some opportunities for last minute changes. Of course all final decisions rest with the organiser (i.e. me ) but I wouldn't want you to think I don't listen!

I want to keep the basic principle - restricting to the major Japanese marques should keep the competition fairly close and interesting - and I want to keep the number of classes to a sensible, small figure (around 3 or 4 at most).

For 2008, the most likely changes are to be:

More events with the ability to drop events - say best 8 scores of 10 rounds. This way if there is a clash, or someone can't make every date, you can still compete and be in with a chance of winning.

Closer alignment of class structure with the regional association. This really applies to the standard car class, in which last year the standard class had very different rules to the regional sprint champs. As a result, the "ideal" competitive car in the JISC standard car class would be uncompetitive in the regional associations. The simplest solution would be to add an A0 equivalent class, giving 4 classes. The question is - has anybody set their sights on J-276 for 2008? If not, it may be easiest just to drop this class for now. If enough people can persuade me to keep it then I will! Speak now....

For those who aren't familiar with the regional championships - A0 is for standard cars up to 2000cc capacity.

The calendar is largely sorted out now, I need to finalise the invitations before setting it in stone. My biggest gap in the calendar at the moment is in June; there are several options but they are going to be long journeys! The options include going to Curborough, a dedicated sprint course just north of Birmingham, or heading down South towards Dover and Lydden Hill. Lydden is a nice little circuit, but does include a number of earth banks as run off areas. These are perhaps a little outside our main catchment area, but the only options around this time.

Any thoughts on these topics gratefully received!

Hi Spencer, for June can you not piggy back the Abingdon Car-nival as thats a big event in June???

Otherwise, everything else mentioned seems fine with me, I will still be in the 2nd JISC class, J-Road.

Looking forward to it :D

Only thing I have seen is that the HCC North Weald event in May clashes with Bentwaters, and if this is going to be a JISC event in the calender it would be a shame as there seems to be plenty North Weald Events in the year already and I would probably go to the Bentwaters one out of choice.

Hi Logan

HCC date at North Weald has been moved to 25th May to resolve the clash - and at the moment I'm not listing it as a JISC round (like you suggest, I prefer the Bentwaters Park option!)

Cool, only reason I asked is that the North Weald was an HCC event and I thought it maybe more likely to be in the calender as a result :!:

Whats your thoughts on promoting the championship for more Entrants this year??

Will there be championship stickers etc?? Are you allowed to mailshot the AEMC entrants that have Jap Boxes??

Ooops sorry I didn't answer all of your original questions!

Abingdon is an interesting option - a big event as well. My main concern about Abingdon is that it fills up so quickly - one year the entry was filled within 2 weeks of the regs being available! I did discuss with the organisers about the possibility for last year and they are willing to include us, but there would be a risk that some people won't get an entry if they don't get their regs in time. I would prefer to stick to events with some slack in them - it helps the clubs and it helps the events - although perhaps Abingdon is a better solution this time just because June is so quiet anyway. Add it to the list of options and see what everyone else thinks :)

All promotional ideas and help welcomed - I thought I would try to keep discussion on those topics on the thread you started earlier.
