Hello Chaps..

Righto let me help clarify a few things.. Now this is my thoughts based on it being one of our circuits and our insurances and personal experience.

Cars are not scrutineered on track days, so fire extinguishers aren't necessary although obviously we would recommend they are there for your safety, but if you have a system ideally it must comply with BS4123 and the pin is in the armed position prior to entering the pit lane, but i have seen many cars with a normal fire extinguisher like the one A2ON197 is suggesting, secured safely in reach of the driver!

As Stuart says, there will always be the gents on fire trucks if ever required, they will be there before you can worry about it anyway!

Gloves and safety wear are advisory but again not compulsory, although i cant think of a reason not to wear any of it.

Helmets, we have a minimum standard (loosely speaking), but again these are not checked either, and i know at Snetterton we hire them out to people should there be an issue. (It is a recommendation to have a Snell 2005 onwards helmet) Obviously open faced in open cars is a no no.

License checking, I have spoken with people at Cadwell this morning to confirm for you all and the credit card part is fine, as it is at Snetterton always. Again, its a recommendation to have both, but the card part is spot on

Obviously as it is an OpenTrack day, they themselves may have requirements they would like met for the day, and as they are the TDO for the day, hiring the facility, it would be down to them to enforce anything on the day they choose to put in place!! They have had very smooth days at Snetterton in the past, with no issues involving any of the above in the past so i doubt there will be any at Cadwell. They are a great TDO and put a lot of time and effort in to making the day run smoothly for you all.

Have fun!!

Thanks for that James. It's the grey area between 'required' and 'recommended' that presents interpretation problems for us track dayers. It would be a big disappointment to be told on the day that you can't run for some reason or other.

The concern is more for any variation in track requirements as what they say goes and no arguing. All the TDOs I been with have bent over backwards to ensure everyone gets what they came for with Opentrack being among the best.

Please don't take this the wrong way but, contain your excitement when you first go out on track, especially Cadwell as it can seriously bite.

Get there early, it's going to be bloody cold overnight and every chance the roads will be a bit skittish too. Getting there well before the briefing time will give you a chance to settle yourself and get your bearings. Look out for one of us lot, the easiest one to spot is Stu and he'll be the one with snow on his head. Come and say hello, buy the teas, etc. :D Get into the early briefing and go on the familiarisation laps.

Cadwell is very slippery on the first section of the track, where it passes under the trees. It often happens that someone on their first track day suffers over-exuberance and stuffs it. It ruins their day and can ruin the car too. It's a bit of fun and enjoyment that can go wrong.

Lecture over :D

PS get your name down for instruction. It's invaluable.

Very wise words Gerry, spot on.

Aaron, tuition at any circuit is a must. Tuition at Cadwell is the difference between wining and coming second. Isn't that right Gerry ;)

1. Just take it easy and build up slowly, don't try and keep up with faster drivers who know the track, let them past as soon as it's safe to do so and concentrate on your own line, entry speeds etc...

2. Make sure you are there in time to do the sighting laps so you know where the tracks going before you're driving it faster.

3. Don't make any sudden direction or speed changes until you are 100% comfortable with the car and keep your driving as smooth as possible. Remember, 'you can speed up tidyness but you can't tidy up speed'

4. Enjoy
