Gerry i have had the news on the scoob ....no1 piston cracked across the crown no 3 cyl oily .....one main journal had picked up some debris ....so not too bad oh and the cracked piston ruined the bore......am having it rebuilt with crank ground and nitrided with a new set pistons ....will have a crankcase breather fitted tooo this time

Ouch! It didn't sound too good on idle so guessed a piston problem. Bloody Imprezas. Any signs of det?

From what I've heard about the cranks, they don't grind too well as it's not easy/possible to clear the grinding debris from the oilways.

Will you be keeping the car once the engine's sorted Mike?

Yeh, I'd just get a new crank Mike. for the cost of it it's worth the piece of mind!

I have a STI 9 crank in my gargae that just needs a polish as it wasn't badly damaged on my last failure, you can have it for a couple of pints if that helps??

Paul at Zen said it would be okay but recommended me to fit a new un.
