Glad you got home ok Gerry, I was about 5 minutes down the road after passing you on the way home (first car I overtook all day!) and suddenly remembered your fluid issues, slowed for a bit and did nt see you, so just kept my fingers crossed!
I'll avoid jinxing your car next time (or lose some weight so the poor thing does nt struggle under the extra load) :-D

A big thank you to Stu and all who helped organize it.

Really enjoyed the track time. Didn't get any video on the first session cause Carley the co-pilot could suss out how to press a button............ women eh???

Some very good driving that we have come to expect from BigPower members but also one or two not so good driving and some that scared the crap out of my Girlfriend which i'm not to happy about. But i will leave that to the powers that be..

It was great to catch up with some old friends and to meet some new faces.

Looking forward to the next event and to me camping on my own at the Lotus event.... I promise the bacon sarnies will be the best ever Gerry.....

Mr Votier and guests will need to check with me before you'll be invited to any more events. Some silly stuff (under taking etc) mixed with some bloody daft incidents ( diving in when the car has already started to turn in for the corner) A shame but Alastair with the race licence should have know better. For race control to mention the driving standards to me at a private event, it must be bad.
Firstly I feel it is unfair to tar all of my guests with the same brush. One of the guys (Stuart) was in the novice group and another (Simon), as far as I am aware, enjoyed an incident free evening.

So I guess the issues lie with myself and Alistair, for which I sincerely apologies if anyone was offended by any on track incidents.

All I can say in our defence was we where driving in the advanced group with very skilled drivers, who could accept a bit of `spirited` driving. This does not excuse any under taking! Personally I had only one incident of undertaking where a BMW had completely left the track on the left and as as I went passed, he re-joined when I was already alongside, as one of the photos shows, but apart from braking hard I had no option but to pass.

I understand if the invitation to join any future events has been withdrawn, however our intention was not to upset anyone and I hope this has not left a bad feeling with any of you guys.

What a great evening!! I had a bit of an incident exiting the esses in the first session  - Stu and Harry had a good view of that - but no damage done. My best driving was definately in the final session - thoroughly enjoyed that :-D

Unfortunately I didn't get any decent footage as my HDD camera didn't like the bumps - otherwise there would be a great vid of me overtaking Harry and then doing some landscape maintenence!

I look forward to the next one when I'll have my toyo's fitted - cheers Dunc, Ginger Ninja and crew :thumb:

Glad you got back on your collection of wheels Drifter - it looked a bit odd!!

Thanks to the BP team for organising another great event.

Jon

Thanks for the reply.

Rather than take this 'offline', you and I know each other well enough to discuss this openly and as several members and users were affected, discussion here can only be good.

Essentially, passing on the left only is just that. There will be exceptional circumstances behind doing otherwise. One of which you described in your own example. Instead of that being the exception for the blue BMW, I think we'll assume it was Alastair driving, it happened on several occasions. He passed Rob Callow on the inside of the start finish straight. He passed a couple of cars on the inside on the approach of Russells and he tried to cut up the inside of me at Coram when there was already a car infront of me (hence me slowing down) I've done thousands of laps at Snetterton. No amount of spirited driving puts me off and I am more than happy to trade track space with anyone, but the risk taking was higher than I would have liked. We had several people there (10 plus) with race licences. Al was the only one that was complained about. I accept that this may all have boiled down to being a bit over competitive but this was not supposed to be a truly competitive event. I know people with motorsports licences tend to be more committed in their driving but we also need to think about our experience levels compared to those around us. It is this mutual level of respect that makes the private events such a success.

Your collective invitation is not withdrawn Jon. As you say, Stuart and Simon both had seemingly clear nights :) Your guests are not members here (they didn't pay the agreed fees last night, not that I would have accepted it after the driving) so I guess that is my stance on this is simple; if anyone wants to take part in our events they will accept that the rules of overtaking are black and white. There is to be no overtaking on the wrong side unless the overtaking car has to take avoidance procedures. If anyone is deemed to have overtaken in a manner that endangers another track user, they are black flagged and their wrist bands cut up. No second goes, no opportunities to make amends.

Personally I'll accept that my own driving is somewhat aggressive and that I run the risk of upsetting others through my will to press on. Maybe the faster drivers need to accept that we have a responsibility to others that do not have the confidence or will to take risks of that scale?

It was a fantastic event in my opinion. A combination of some genuinely quick drivers and some damned fast cars meant that there were some cracking sessions.

It was lovely to see several people out on circuit for the first time and the number of people there to support was tremendous (Thanks no doubt to the weather I guess)

The photos and videos should be quite impressive (number 21 please Maff) and I know Ben, murano3, is working with Gareth, rx7, on a HD video for the club. Maybe that could incorporate some of the live track stuff too?

Thanks for the support of Nik and Jam with the paperwork, thanks to Alan from Toyo and as normal thank you to the staff at the circuit for looking after our safety and our waist lines!! Man those pies are good.

I was delighted to give some passenger laps to Bryan, Mike Downs, James and Nik. My car is feeling a little bit tired now with the brakes, tyres and suspension all needing work so she is far from her best. Most of the M3's were quicker last night (certainly in a straight line) but few were as quick through Riches or Coram so I guess that the car has the potential to be something pretty handy in time.

I hope the comments about the positive aspects of the night help to put the small dent of some poor driving by what looks like one or two people into context. For so many people to go out there for two and a half hours and drive that hard without any real incident is astonishing.

Well done guys.

thanks for a good night well organised

Was a bit of a day to forget for me

Had some problems before I got to snetterton which meant me running late

Then could get out in the first session because of missing the safety laps.

Next session was good had a really good dice with some nissans and m3s however I was really struggling for grip around twistys as my toyos have had it and also my brakes were really poor so much so that I had to pull into pits early and let it cool down -time for another fluid change I think!

Tried swapping my really worn front toyo to the rear for the next time out, which massively improved front grip at the expense of rear grip which let go on me on the oil later on for a scary moment onto the grass at 100mph!

Came back to the pits and noticed my garage number 13 garage lol and to top it off my camara footage is all crap as I acidentally put it on night shot mode :( Any ideas if can edit this on the pc to make the film viewable?

cheers

Scott

 I was fine thanks Rob.I'd pulled into a lay by as I'd forgotten to switch back to the road map

A nice steady drive home, off boost for two reasons. First the water blowing out on boost and the second, very worrying was that Mike B noticed the re-routed power steering rubber hose had melted onto the turbo heat shield and was stuck hard :o as it was PAS fluid that caused the fire on Friday, I wanted to keep the heat shield as cool as possible. But, how hot must it have got? :o

Likewise, between Riches and Sear I let a couple through on the left, then was stuffed up the inside at last moment by the dark blue one. I was sortof ready for it as he was obviously locked onto his mates with the red mist down, but it was a race-practice move not a trackday move. Am not easily fazed having raced bikes in the past but was a bit perturbed to be altering my line to avoid collision.

Think I need better tyres for the next one; felt a bit slow on end-of-life RE070s last night.

Thanks for a good night, my first BP track event and it wont be the last. It wasn't a competition and those that knew that had fun. I saw some brilliant driving which matched the high quality of cars there.

Thanks again
Karl
