I hope so, but the way my luck has been this year I would guess not. Close to calling it a day now, fed up of owning the thing and never being able to enjoy it.
Michael - i know your are just a victim of the frustration at the moment, you are so close to having it back now... not long.... and when it is back... boy will it be awesome.
Michael, I think your frustration is only natural mate. I want to take a pick axe to mine at the moment and its been running badly on and off for two days! How you must be feeling is anyones guess. As Dunk says, perservere. The fruits of your labour/wallet are so close, maybe just take some pressure off yourself and start again next year?
Just returned from a surprisingly enjoyable day at Cadwell. Well, actually, that's a bit misleading. I expected to enjoy the day but when my car misfired all the way there, some eager track virgin fired his Impreza through a tyre wall closing the track for an hour, and the onsite mechanic couldn't find the fault after swapping coils- I still enoyed myself.
I left the farm in the wilds of nowhere in the pitch black of our new autumn. I'm 34 and I still find the clocks changing all a bit wierd and I'm always paranoid I change them the wrong way. My liaison was with Dunk, Rachel and Annabel at the 1066 near Downham Market for 7am. A good start as there is no such road!! We still met up with seamless precision (by the skin of our teeth) and made our progress to the circuit for our 8.30 briefing where we hoped to meet up with Gerry, Andy, John, Paul and Pavlo. If ever you're lucky enough to go to Cadwell make a mental note to enjoy the roads around Horncastle, a very genuine warm up to the circuit itself but bear in mind there is an absence of tyre walls; you get ditches and tonnes of wildlife too...........all hell bent on diving into Dunks car.
The tracktime was great overall, a few stoppages and a few twats who failed to grasp the concept that some cars are quicker than others, regardless of the badge didn't spoil a fantastic return to one of my favourite circuits. Even the weather helpd out for us, I think I even have sunburn- not bad for nearly November in the UK. I'm sure there will be a few guys posting some photos up later :thumb: (Was an expensive 6 laps for me)
Just got back myself after a day of ups and downs, and not just on the tarmac!
I couldn't drive as the track admin wanted both parts of driving license, and I am currently sans the plastic bit until I sort a replacement. Decided after the initial period of rage to sign on as a passenger and get JohnF to pilot the car so we could play with the settings somewhat. It's the first time on track since changing to my new twin wastegate system, and viola, no more boost creep.
Chargecooler water pump found to be burned out (red hot motor and no moving bits) which meant the car was laggy as hell and generally down on power. I dropped the boost down to 1.4 bar and turned on the a little nitrous! All great until the fuel solenoid for the nitrous stuck open, pouring fuel into the engine. Some diagnostics with John and Steven got it going again before dark though.
I liked cadwell as a passenger, it seems like my kind of circuit, not to big, not too fast, more technical. Today has helped solidify the way forward for the car, I have plenty to work on during the next few months, response and drivability will be top of the agenda.
Great day well worth the trip, even to spectate. We were blessed with a wonderful day weather wise.
I can see why they call this a mini ring! Up/Down blind bends etc trully awesome.
Didn't think to ask why John was driving Paul's car all day:roll: It was a relief to see the Zen car fire up after all the fervent spanner rattling as the early twilight took over from the gloriously sunny day. Relief also that I didn't need to re-arrange the wagon to make the passenger seat available for a trip to Wellingborough :-D
Sorry for Goodap as the pax ride was terminated early. I'd been having brake problems all day, having to pump the pedal at each application and the confidence, in the car, just wasn't there. Soon discovered why, when re-fitting the road wheels, the n/s/f wheel had about an inch of play in it
