For me I do like going out - and normally do - 6 - 9 laps - once temps are up and brakes feel a bit iffy I come back in for a rest.

As my car is not a daily driver the wear and tear from a few track days isn't much of a worry. But I do worry about that fact that it barely get's used and when it does it's hardcore use!.

My biggest fear is a big off - mechanicals aren't to bad - but a buggered shell - doh.

If I was to buy a track car - it would also have to be an R32GTR, it's just such a fun car on the track. I love the way the systems work and the feeling when you get it sideways.

It has taken me the whole of the 2006 season to do the major work (learning) on my car, and it has been off the road for most of it.

I am not trying to put anyone off here but; the last event of 2005 (I only did 2) killed my gearbox - granted I was very hard on it, and it was not in the greatest condition to start with.

Next year will see quite a few more events. Money, and time, are the major considerations. I do all the work on my car myself, along with FT job, and plans to build a new house in 2007, so if I do brake something it tends to take me a while to fix it. Because of this I am wary about commiting to trackdays, but understand that they have to be booked in advance.

The car could also do with more work and I do not think she will be quite ready for the session in December - but it will not be far off and a good shakedown before 2007 :)

Fear?? None

As you can see I would have ticked a few boxes. But for now I guess Money is the biggest factor.

Tony, I think you hit the nail on the head - if you thought it the box was a bit iffy you can expect it to go pop.

Saying that i've got an infrequent crunch going into 5th - but as I don't use it very often - 5th that is - I shan't worry.

I have the car checked mechanically from tyres to top and serviced normally before a track session - my only worries then are other drivers or me making a mistake which is most likely going to be the case. Other then that you take your chances.

Thera re very few people (Trevor apart) that drive at the complete limit at a track day. With proper tuition, and there are always instructors present at them, you will learn a lot and be able to put it into practice on the track that day and drive more safely on the roads too by understanding car balance.

The last Cadwell day included free tuition - perfect :) - but at the snet days there is a small charge for a long tuition session on track being advised and guided by someone that knows the track like the back of their hand. Highly recommended for safety purposes and also to build speed and mechanical sympathy by driving smoothly.

Wear and Tear on my car after:
.. Snetterton (about 210 track miles)
.. Nurburgring (about 170 very hard track miles)
.. MLR sprint
.. Honnington (about 30 track miles)
.. Cadwell (about 130 track miles)
.. plus 15000 normal road miles

- 1 set of tyres RE070 (love them and the seemingly limitless grip)
- pads worn about 25% (Ferodo DS2500 - changed from standard pre ring trip along with braided lines and RBF600 brake fluid)
- a couple of extra rattles
- a few stone chips on the front
- a couple of extra oil changes and topping up of brake fluid

None of these are that much over and above "normal" useage by some and are way outstripped by the fun and learning had along the way :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that Ben - Other ignorant drivers!! This is why BP track days should be good. I would hope that our members would not be putting other peoples pride and joy at risk. There is no point in taking stupid risks if it is not in a competition scenario.

Saying that you have to be on the look out for inexperienced drivers too. I would hope any track newcomers will take things very slowly to start, and ask advise on ANYTHING they are unsure on.

I am pretty sure my gearbox would die on the track. It isn't happy on the road at times so I will wait until the zed box is on :) It is a bit daunting going on the track. I have the fear of making a major fook up. Having said that I have done a bit of track driving at Rockingham in their Minis and that was awesome :)
