I believe Spence was fourth, behind John Start and the two Porches.

John told me about the Brands incidents in the loo, so just a brief "did you hear about?" type conversation.

Towards the end of the day, just as we were packing up, two fire tenders and the airfield security shot up peri track by the main runway (live side of the airfield), with lights and noise - there were rumours around the paddock of a helicopter crash, but I kind of dismissed them as confusion over the Colin McRae crash. There was a helicopter hovering over a field just past the firing range. Checked the BBC website later (as Gerry did!) and found out is was the Dave Richards incident - bizarre coincidence.

As for the sprint, congrats to Gerry who was on fine form and set a blazing second timed run to comfortably win his class, despite some minor technical glitches with the car. My event was so-so; despite being in near the biggest class of the day, I had no real competition: the three faster cars in the class (John Start and the two Porsches) had a real close battle up the front of the class, but I was never in any real danger of joining them. The other four or five in the class were a little way behind. So I was competing against the clock, and I didn't even do that very well - my first timed run was tidy but scope to improve (particularly through the fast left-hander), my other runs were all spoiled by being untidy in the tight bits, both ending up with slower times.

Well done Spence, to beat John and the GT3s in a stock UK turbo would have been nigh on impossible, so that was a good result.

With no Kim you'd have had a good shout at winning that class in the ESL car, even with the 070's

Should have given it to you for the day but it was busy at Barkston.

Kind words (anybody might think you're biased! lol) but I don't think I would have done the ESL car justice, I was about a second down on where I know I should have been, and you would have been quicker than that still; still a lot of time gains to be had developing the driver!

With regards to the Brands incidents - I believe Kim lost it at Paddock, and was unlucky enough to find Armco. Not a good place to leave the track unfortunately

I haven't received a cancellation from him yet though, don't know whether he will make it on the 23rd. The sunbeam suddenly veered off crossing the start/finish line and damaged the front end, quite an unusual "off" that one, perhaps some sort of mechanical problem?
