I've been looking at some helmets for sprinting/trackdays and i'm unsure which type to get.
I'm sure i heard that there was some new regs coming out in 2010 so i want to make sure i buy one that will comply with these regs and last me a couple of years.
Anyone shed any light on this for me????
I like the look of the helmet below, what you think???

Thanks.
Helmet for Sprinting... What Standard is required?

Yeah, the Pro Jet should be fine Stu. The link from Sparco's site is a bit more informative

I think the gist of it is that Gold ACU lids will not be allowable for next year, even though they are often up to a better standard than the FIA equivalents. Alyn at ASP may be able to do you a great deal and get you some proper advice too.

Suits made of Proban are going to be out of spec in 2010, as far as i understand Nomex suits are the minimum standard required.
Helmets marked BS?????? Class A are ok this year, but not in 2010, but if it's marked with BS?????? Class AF then it's fine for 2010 & onwards. The differnece is just that the AF has fireproof lining ,the A doesn't & that is the only difference
Also in 2010 the way the regs in the Blue Book read, its going to be mandatory to wear fireproof gloves for sprinting.
I curently have a proban suit, a class A lid & wear gloves which aren't fireproof  So Sparco will be making a few quid out of me!!!
Given that i've been to loads of sprints & never see any vehicles properly on fire, let alone any competiors burned or on fire, it really stinks of "Jobs for the Boys".
I'd understand maybe it if was for all vehicles which require a Nat A liscence as they have the potential to have a really big accident, but I'm driving a bloody road car & IMHO the 2010 spec is serious overkill for most competitors.
Finding the money to get all the upgraded PPE for 2010 is really going to eat into my motorsport budget & i expect it to do the same to alot of people & subsequently it will reduce my entries at all events in 2010, could have much wider rammifications than the MSA may have concidered.
End of rant :-D

Be a pigeon, not a statue.
This year proban suits and kart boots are OK (the safety standard) but if you think you're serious about doing this for a while and can afford a better quality, I'd go for something like the Sparco Sprint suit (circa

Maybe a good time for any of our traders to consider negotiating with their suppliers for next season? Either that or the club could try and get some group buys together?

When i spoke to the scrutineer at north weald he said that their was only talk of the possibility of the proban suits being banned, But that would probably take a couple of years to come into effect? I bought one of the soon to be U.S lids from SCA! #-o So as above do your homework on the correct kite mark

well you know me Stu, i will try to resit getting the high end glam stuff but being a bit of a nerd when it comes to that i will most prob end up in high end Alpinestars or the like.
But i guess you get what you pay for and i'm not skimping on something that could save my life.
Thanks for the advice.
I would be interested in a group buy for sure........
