Hello from a novice mod saloon racer (In Tk's old car!)

Hi Tk and other forum members,
I bought the Pulsar GTiR off Tk and have had my eligibility confirmed for Classic Touring Car Racing Club's 'Classic Thunder' championship which is great.
Have made good progress with the car. Interior is fully stripped and painted now. The lower half of the dashboard and centre console has all been removed and I've fabricated a custom panel for the dash for electrical cut offs, fire extinguisher activation etc. The wiring has all been spiral wrapped neatly. Got the heater and air con units out today too. Overall have made quite a good saving on weight.
Just waiting for payday to come around so I can fit a seat and get the alarm/immobiliser removed. Can also send other bits n bobs like strut brace, cam cover etc for powder coating.
I'm hoping to be ready for the CTCRC Snetterton round in August but I think that might be a bit hopeful as still got quite a few bits to buy but should definitely be ready over winter.
I've left the BigPower.co.uk stickers on the car and as you can see have joined the forum myself.
Look forward to meeting some of you at events in the future.

Hello Sir

Tk was gutted to sell the car and if it weren't for his ridiculous appetite for Golfs, I don't think he'd have ever sold the Pulsar
I had a look at that championship for my M3 last year. Some wonderful cars in the series and a smashing bunch of lads to compete against. Your Pulsar should be quite competitive in that, I would have thought. Best of luck.
Trev will be in tears when that hits the race track

hello mate, i hope the car serves you well and i see it out there racing, congrats on getting it into the classic touring cars
bigpower is a good club with friendly members who are always willing to help out with advice etc..
i do kind of wish you never signed up as i will see the car about and hear where its racing, it was a lot of fun in the few sprints i did do in it. and it will be missed

Haha, sorry mate. Didn't mean to twist the knife! I might bend it at the first corner anyway then you can have a wry giggle :P
A few friends of mine race in the Dunlop Motorsport News Saloon Car Championship but some of the machinery in that is pretty epic and some of the driving standards have at times been a bit dodgy so I didn't think it was suitable for a novice.
When your golf is running you'll forget all about the Pulsar. There will be so many more classes open to you that you can be competitive in too. Trouble with 4WD forced induction is you end up pitted against WRC cars and the like.
I have found forums like this to be very helpful. Have got loads of advice of various people, some which has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but its all food for thought. I may ask some silly questions of you all as/when I need some advice so I hope that's ok and you can be patient!

Whereabouts are you based in the UK? I don't intend on stealing your car

I was interested to see about our demographic spread.
The Dunlop series you mention is superb but some of those guys are a bit experienced; that is the one that Rod Birley & Ron Kiddell run in, isn't it?
Edited because I'm a prat! Just read it says 'Kent' in your profile! A few of us are at Brands tomorrow if you want to come and say hello. Pike is racing in the Golf series, Martyn is there in support with MikeB, maybe Tk and I there to learn some of the inside knowledge on making these Golfs quicker.

Yeah. I put out Rod's engine bay fire at Brands Hatch with a member of his team. Legged it off the pit wall only to return and have a Seat, Honda and Mini flying at me. Thank god for the 'new' catch fencing on the pitwall!
It is a good championship. Good value for money. Last event at Mallory was televised live too.
I wont be able to make Brands. Got stuff to do tomorrow and another appointment in the garage with the car! Cheers for the offer though

Hi and welcome to BP.
Good of you to join up so now you have to give us regular updates on what you're up to with Trev's former chariot.
