Andy, I haven't tried 070s but presume it's the 225/45 tyre section that's the concern?
It was only with the RE040s that I had problems and only the rears, I needed 3mm spacers as the tyre just touched the strut, on the inside. On an undulating section of road and a bit of weight in the car, the wheel arch would catch the nearside tyre so I had the arches rolled. The 040 is a very square section tyre so is a touch too wide for a classic.
The KWs give a fair bit of extra clearance, on the inside and the 070s are a more rounded section. Plus the car just doesn't move so much on the suspension.
In a nutshell, you'll be fine :-D

Good! I've just had an interesting time fitting some brakes. When I couldnt get the 0.3mm gauge between the spoke and the caliper I decided it was time to shave a bit from the spacers
I've had some rubbing from the superleggaras so may have gone a bit too low on the ride height. I'll see what Zak recommends tomorrow.
How did you find the 040s? Ideally want some 070s but the wheels keep coming up with the wrong tyre at the mo!
I'll let you know how I get on versus the Startmeister, but I think hes turned his boost up even further so not sure if I'll be able to close the gap.

Small aaddition to what I said earlier: I'm using the newage STi wheels and for some reason thought you were too. I don't know the Superleg's offset but that may alter the centre line position from mine.
040s are rock hard so the grip levels are pretty poor compared to 070s plus, I imagine the pattern will allow the tread to move around more. John uses 070s on his Evo to good effect, as you know, so they're the tyre of choice for the roadgoing class but not available in a narrower section than 225/45 afaik.

Actually came across a set of RE070s on Sti wheels today, if I can persuade the owner to part with them!
Came 3rd in the fast class again today at North Weald, but only 0.5s behind Bill McKennas trick GT3, so think I'm on a par with him now with a bit more track time. Zak discovered the toe was all over the place so sorted both axles and its a much improved steer now, very neutral and predictable.
4 competitors for the JISC this round and lots more signed up, so all in all a good day.
Duncan, is that the drift practice on the 9th May; am up for it as diff being welded in the E36 this week.
