Ring Story by PC185

I've been sat here trying to think of a way of describing our trip and I've come up with the a German word "Wahnsinns".
We left and headed to Folkestone to stay in a B&B overnight before we caught the early morning EuroTunnel to France. We found the local "all you can eat" Chinese restaurant and induldge ourselves, piling on the weight we had been stripping out the cars in the previous weeks Very Happy
A smooth ride under the drink and then a blast to Nurburg through France and Belguim on the main roads.
As soon as you enter Germany the roads get smoother and everything gets neater. The smaller country roads into Nurburg itself are a dream to drive too.
We ended up at the RingHaus Hotel after some confusion, however I managed to find a local who sort of pointed us in the general direction. We unpacked and then got some rest in...
Did we hell!!!! we all headed off to the Ring, which was 500yds from the hotel and got our first laps in Very Happy
It was a late public opening that day and all men and theirs brothers had come out for a play. It was like a scene from wacky races and not one I would of chosen for my first laps of the Ring. The bikers were coming out of no where and pulling over for mad M3 and Porsche drivers just made it feel like you were getting in the way a bit, and you had to keep a third eye on your mirrors.. However we had all popped out Ring Cherry.
Everyone returned to the pit to compare story's and it was off out again for another lap Very Happy
Gary, gutmann pug had found us and had shown myself and Dad some lines around the ring, noting the dots which were spray painted on the track at the turn-in and apex points. Hooking both these up meant a perfect line.
Back at the pits, Gary was keen to show off the Pug and what the Ring was all about. My dad declined the offer of a lap in the Pug, however I jumped at the chance to be driven round by the former owner of Jimmy's scoob Very Happy
After harnessing myself in the 5 point harness ( a feat in itself ), a donning my bash hat we headed out.. I couldn't speak as Gary threw the car into corners 5 times faster I had thought you could. The lines were great, speed into and out of the corners impressive and he even managed to commentate about the ring, pointing out places as we passed them and all of the traffic that was on the road. I was impressed no end and was shacking,as the adrenaline pumped around my body 30mins after the ride. Thanks again Gary ( http://www.northloop.co.uk - that ok for you mate ? Very Happy )
We headed back to the Ringhaus for tea and beer and after a hectic Wahnsinns day I slept like a baby.
The next day we headed to the Ring for the opening, 8am. The hardcore and local tourists were here at this ungodly hour and we headed out for a few early cheeky laps.
The laps felt so much different with fewer cars on the circuit. You felt more relaxed and the drive flowed and you could have mroe fun as you weren't moving out of the way of faster cars as much Smile
We said we weren't going to time ourselfs however I wanted to, in a bizzare way.. From standing start, bridge to bridge was 11mins 15secs in the Golf, with passenger and tools etc in boot Smile That was the lap you were following me on Stu!! The Golf held out well Smile The oil temp rose to 116 oC and it felt with a few tweaks it could go a lot faster around there.....
After a few laps the paddock was filling up with cars you only see a handful of times in the UK.. Porsche GT3's were like Mondeos, Ferraris the equivalent of the Vectra. The odd "rare" car, 2 Merc CLK DTM's (only 100 made), a Porsche GT etc etc and all thrashing around the Ring!!! You could go and wander round the paddock all day and that would be great fun!! The owners all willing to talk to you about the cars with no sense of superiority. Everyone there was a petrol head and was keen to welcome everyone Very Happy
In the mid afternoon we drove around to some viewing points to get some pics and also to watch the traffic that was going by. I picked up my one and only injury here.... A wasp bite!!!
That night a meal in the PistonKlause, steaks self cooked on stones and plently of beer... Very Happy
Today, i am running out of steam now by the way, a trip home.. Off the Golfs MFA computer I can tell you we travelled today 463miles in 8hrs37mins.. Totally we did 1044miles there, back and round the ring and it never missed a beat. Not bad for a 15yr old car that for the last 2 yrs has been sitting stationary in the front drive of my parents! Very Happy
I would like to thank Stuart. Without him this trip would of not been as well organised and put together.
Thanks to all of the other guys and gals that went, it was a blast and a half and I haven't stopped laughing over things Very Happy
Also, the last thing.
When's the next one Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Pics will be up later.
Sorry if this doesn't read properly... My head is all over the shop through exhaustion!! Very Happy
