I started reading a thread about soaring fuel prices which lead to talk of inflation taking off and one thing lead to another.
If anyone is interested in seeing what happened the last time there was a proper financial meltdown in a developed country, have a read of this link. It's the full version of the above titled book

Not what I'd call a light read but I do find it fascinating.
When money dies

OK, essentially, it seems that our current financial woes are nothing new. The Germans money in the '20's became totally worthless. Totally. In no time at all, people would only be able to trade items like furniture or equipment for food and essentials. Commerce as we know it collapsed. Fast forward 80+ years and it appears that greed is the current blight. Not just the individual but also corporate and political.
There are several parallels between those times and ours. When you do read about the abject poverty that people were exposed to, it does make me think that we don't really know that we are on about.

Today's random thought ,money; imo biggest confidence trick of modern man ,different coloured bits of paper to indicate value and numbers on a computer screen to indicate your current wealth ,if the shit was ever to hit the fan big style you cannot barter pieces of paper for food etc. But gold sovreigns, silver coins etc will always have a "value".

There was a pretty good program on ch4 sometime ago which showed how much debt we are actually in which at the time was 4.2 trillion pounds which a very large % of people have little comprehension on how much this actually is .

Thanks Stu! I do sometimes think how war and/or terrorism could soon turn life as we know it upside down. With utilities down the many thinks we take for granted would be gone, and with fuel shortages we would find ourselves eating fresh produce and walking to get water.
