hi guys, not been on for ages but things with the legacy drag car have taken a different turn. i met up with a guy who crews for roger moore and the pro mod dodge viper he runs and he has convinced me to turn the leggy into a full on tube frame bitch, for charity. we are going to use it to raise funds and awareness for the childrens trust for dissabled kids. we are currently at the chopping up stage of the build and will be space framing the front and rear end and lightening the central tub. combining this with a one piece clamshell front end. the whole interior will be stripped with only an alloy dash box put in with a specially fab'ed seat and fuel cell. what we want to ask is if anyone has any bits they dont need or want kicking about that might help us along, doesny matter how small they may be it all helps. we will be out next year all things willing and the trust logo will be on our tent in the pit. my email is
dragracing4kids@hotmail.co.uk and my phone is 07561441559. thanks

Give us some more details about the project (website address, names of people involved, details, details, details) and you'll probably get some help, from me included. Without that and I hate to say it, but you've been on the forum for five minutes and you're holding your hand out; good cause or not.
Please don't take offence, I love a good cause, many of us do. We recently raised money for a couple of the lads in Time Attack and I have personally donated my old Jag for the purposes of others.
If this is definitely going ahead, I'm happy to help but if it all goes tits up, the question I would ask is what happens to my stuff? Sold on or returned? (See what I mean?)
Get a project or proper plan knocked up and let me/us know. I'd love to support you but there needs to be some fabric to your plans mate.

hi i understand mate no worries. we have already started the project but here are the general plans, see what you think.
body: remove all structural metalwork ahead of the front bulkhead and replace it with a fabricated tube frame to reduce weight, this frame would of course support engine, and suspension components. said suspension would be replaced with tubular and light weight drag specific components to reduce the weigh the factory parts have. the main tub of the car will be totally stripped of any trim or none essential metalwork, the dash will be replaced by an alli pod housing all but the most essential guages and switches. i am haveing a kirkey stylr drag seat made to fit my shall we say sturdy frame. the back passenger door is to be fitted with ducting to feed a radiator mounted where the rear seats should be, this will be then ducted out through the boot. on the front end will be a clamshell one piece fibre glass nose when we can get anyone to help with it. at the rear we again will try to remove all none essential metal work and replave with alli where poss. all except the drivers door are to be welded shut and the insides cut away to reduce weight again and the outsides flushed to reduce drag. the car is to be lowered to aid airflow and that front end may be altered slightly to aid airflow but still retain the look of the legacy with all grille and lights etc being replaced with decal photos of them.
mechanically we want to aim for 450-500bhp with the use of a larger turbo, injectors, ported inlet, fmic mounted at an angle to aid airflow and reduce drag, straight out exhaust and screamer pipr to reduce back pressure, forged engine internals and the usual odss and ends that aid power output like c02 bar on i/c and poss meth injection on the inlet. we are toying with the idea of mating the engine to a slush box to aid shift times, of course the engine will be stipped of any none essentials such as p/s pump and air con. we also intend using a fly off handbrake for ease of launch with an extended lever so its at the drivers reach easier. wheel wise we will go small with drag tyres.
our website is something we need help with, but email is as in the first post. my phone number also is 07561441559 feel free to get in touch.
the charity we are with is called the childrens trust, its for the support and care of children who have suffered traumatic brain injury and those with multiple disabilities. they do a really great job in helping these kids and their families. myself and my team mate and mechanic chris are both proud dads to fortunately healthy kids, but as a care worker i come accross kids and adults who are less fortunate than ourselves.
chris works also with the pro mod dodge viper of roger moore as a mechanic, he is also a qualified mechanic.
we arent after money, we will raise that at events with fundraisers and collections, we need bits and bobs, no matter how big or small that may help us along. if sadly this goes belly up like you say then of course anything you donate will be sent back, it would be a swines trick to sell them on, but if it does go ok then we will be forever thankfull to you and we will mention you in any handouts etc we produce as a matter of thanks, if you are a business then of course we will provide add space on any media stuff and the car itself. thanks for your curiosity, its better than the ignorance we have been getting.

The principle of the project sounds great, but unless your idea has some substance behind it, it
could appear to be all sorts of things.
The only thing I can think of that may help with the fabrication stuff is some aluminium chequer plate. I have around 5 square metres of the stuff at home, if that's any good for flooring, bulkheads etc..... You'd need to collect it because it's a bit big to post
