New Tyres for 2011...?

Post by Monster »

I may have missed this elsewhere so apologies if this is old rumour, but the rumour yesterday was that Toyo are no longer the control tyre for next year and the series is moving to Pirelli...

Great as i have a new set of toyos and a car with no engine in it so haven't even used them

I am not sure what's what, but I guess you could be right as the same organisers run the drift event that is now sponsored by Pirelli. Your best off building your GTR for Nippon or the LMA series anyway ;)

Ah, more fuel to the fire but it's sounding pretty firm as rumours go.

Hmm, well both of those had crossed my mind to be honest chap, although building it at all seems to be a challenge at the mo, simple job sat turned into no engine or box in it tonight...

If that is true, i guess they will be using the P Zero 'Trofeo'. Be interesting to see how it compares to the 888's. From the look of the them they won't be as grippy, but as i'm no tyre expert i'm probably wrong.

One interesting thing though, they start at 225/40/18.

Be interesting to see who can get there car's dialed into the new tyres the quickest.

It's now official, Pirelli are the control tyre for Time Attack 2011:mad:

Full details will be released in the next couple of days, but at the moment it's not looking good and it's going to be a very stressful couple of days. Their track based tyres all start at 18" and we run 17".

For us to go to 18" would mean new wheels, suspension and arch extensions and will basically fuck up the balance of the car. Oh how i'm looking forward to talking to Alan later:cuss:

It will be interesting to see how this rolls out. Pirelli have some wonderful tyres and they grip levels on the P-Zero's should be phenomenal.

As far as your set up goes, well that is really tough on you both. Surely the need to modify the car is not that great? Using the normal step up in tyre size and profile adjustments will take car of 99% of the work? When you guys were here last there looked to be plenty of clearance in terms of width and ride height (I appreciate that you weren't running TA ride heights due to the farm track ;) )

The other thing is, you guys are serious about running in 2012 not 2011. Anything could happen by next year.

205/40/17 clear the arches but for track they still need to be rolled. 215s require the front arches to be folded. 18s require different suspesion to what we run and the arches to be cut.

The 3dr coworth in Time Attack was running 18s and had to cut his wings (arches) to avoid rubbing on track. The guys on his forum have been saying ditch the 18s and drop to 17s.

The Escort cosworth was running 19s, but he has come down to 18s and he's running WRC front wings.

We're not the only ones running smaller than 18s so they must have something in the pipe line.

As Alan just said to me...don't mean shit as the test was carried out at Brands, more a power circuit than a handling circuit. If it was done at say Oulton Park then more valid.
