Got the urge for some reason as a daily. Not bored of the Gsi at all, I've just got that habit of looking on Pistonheads, ebay....

So what's the score, any nasty stories? Seem to be able to pick one up for about

V1 and V2 1992-1996 are very good prices right now and with just a few choice mods and a remap they make fairly decent power. Even standard they go well enough and will be pretty reliable with regular oil and filter changes every 5K miles, just don't expect good gas mileage.

25mpg tops from my classic, and that's when it was nt doing it's best to cook itself.
I had NOTHING but trouble with mine.
I one owner, FSSH, non modded car, and it pissed itself three time in three months, the last time being terminal. (I was getting quotes of

its the luck of the draw i guess , my old silver wrx took a lot of punishment and didnt miss a beat, blue one was also alright even with its 140,000 miles, white sti shit itself first time on track.
i think your generally alright as long as you dont mess around with them with different turbos, loads of boost etc etc..

The blue one is a Sport, therefore non-turbo and I understand that they are less well equipped too. (Unless you get a Sport special)

The silver one looks quite nice but the unknown quantity of the Sti engines would be of concern. Best to get one, even a cheap one, checked over first.

I owned a silver classic way back in 2000 and loved it. I cherished that car more than any since; it's probably the reason I am far more clinical about cars now. The Impreza was waxed, cleaned and obsessed about every day during the 9 months that I owned it. The throb of the exhaust, the torque from no revs at all, the feel through the wheel and wet weather ability that makes you feel invincible are just a few of the very many reasons to own one.

Fuel costs aren't that bad; certainly no worse than most other 200+bhp four wheel drive cars. The interior build quality is akin to a hamsters cage but once you've settled into the standard seats, and fired the thing up, the last thing on your mind will be a few squeaks from the dash :)

Clutches are quite pricey to change but don't launch it and they last well enough. Another consideration to make is the image. It's a crying shame that so many people consider the Impreza to be suitable for the worst forms of automotive sacrilege but there we are; people do subject these cars to the most heinous of mods.

I prefer the wagon for this very reason. All of the pace, more room and less prone to cock smokers owning them.

Best of luck mate.

Off to look at Pistonheads
