Has anyone undergone the following treatments....

Post by ScoobieWRX »

Septoplasty - Rhinoplasty - FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery)

I'm having all of the above done on the same day in June and wondered if anyone has gone through all or any of the ops i've listed here and how well you recovered, were there any complications, how did you feel afterwards and was it successful etc...

I asked if i could have a remap instead but they just looked at me blankly while sharpening their knives

Edited to add: Rhinoplasty has nothing to do with having a surgically enhanced horn...Although that might be nice :D
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

A family member had this done (or similar) and it was I'm afraid to say very sore and uncomfortable for a good while. Persistant nose bleeds during recovery and the expected difficulty in nasal breathing. Once the wounds had healed, there was some improvement though.
Good luck you poor bugger.

I'm hoping for a good end result.

I've suffered all my life with this since i was a baby as well as asthma but i've always controlled things without drugs till a couple of years ago. The sinusitis came on really strong at the same time as the Asthma got much worse so i don't know what is responsible for what. I am however hoping the above procedures will fix my sinus issues and in turn improve the asthma. I take 3 different inhalers, one of them a steroid and also nasal steroid spray. I hate taking the things and they give me some pretty bad mouth ulcers as well but i've got no choice at the moment.

All my sinuses are completely blocked and my Septum is badly deviated plus my nose is bent hence the Rhinoplasty. To be honest i'm shitting bricks at the thought of this op but it's got to be better than carrying on like this indefinately.

Thanks for the comments Rob, much appreciated. Fingers crossed it's worth it. :)

Rhinoplasty as in having the bone in the middle of your nose straightened?

If so... i had that done about 5 years ago as mine went slightly to one side and affected my breathing through one nostril. The operation itself wasn't too bad (possibly due to the clinical cocaine used beforehand?) but about an hour after i got home i had real bad nose bleeds, it just wouldn't stop so had to go back into hospital to have it repacked.... this bit hurt ALOT.

After the first day things improved and there was no more real pain or nose bleeds and mine has been much much better ever since.

Hope this helps (and doesn't put you off).

Not putting me off...much, although the cocaine bit sounds good. :D

I'll be asleep for this so won't feel a thing anyway till i wake up. They've got to unblock and scrape out all my sinuses and i've got to be asleep for that thank god, so they'll do the rest of it while i'm under. I don't fancy being awake while they shove an endoscope up my nose. I might ask them if i can keep the endoscope as a souvenir, i'm looking for a borescope as it is :D

Yep...They've told me my nose has to be packed out, not looking forward to that one bit :(

Cheers

I was asleep when they did mine, i could have had it done sooner and not wait as long for the op but there was no way i wanted to be awake for that!

The worst bit for me was removing the packing! Not everyone needs it though so hopefully you wont!

Good luck fella.
