Help me choose an 'ordinary' car

In addition to my scoob and Ducati bike, Lucy and I have a Mazda 1.8GT as a workhorse, and we're looking to replace it. Limitations are it must be 5dr and practical, and standard unmodified (says Lucy...).
Current favourite is the ST170 Focus and we'll likely look at a couple tomorrow. Another is the Type-S Civic, pre-spaceship model. Both look pretty good value at around 5k for 5-6yr old ones. What else might fit the bill?
Dull question, I know, sorry!
cheers
Andy

I know where there's a nice Volvo T5 going. Cheap!
Can't get more practical than a Volvo estate.

Not any more Gerry

Agreed with the Focus ST although I'm surprised they aren't cheaper?
How about something like a Seat Leon Cupra? Quick, well built and very easy to tune once Lucy has forgotten about the modifications clause

I knew Jason felt ill but he really must be very very ill to say something like that, he is driving around in one of the most uneconomical, o-zone unfriendly vehicles on this earth!!
even makes my Subaru look economical!
