Hi chaps,

Right got a call from my old man today, poor old boy has snapped the cambelt on his little run-about

its a 2001 ford fiesta 1.25 zetec and its covered 94k

its never had a cambelt change...what!!! i hear you cry

ford say the cambelt isnt due till 100k or after 10 years!!!

now im pretty sure he has a case for ford to pay for the repairs? what do people reckon?

i told dad not to touch the car at the min...and the leave the orignal ford cam belt where it it(to prove the car hasnt had a cambelt change anywhere)

so opinions please guys...?

cheers
rob

Fair play mate. Has the car got a proper service history? Doesn't have to be main dealer I don't think, but it will need to be stamped up by a VAT registered business. Certainly worth a phone call to pursue it

its a possible one, depends on how ford view the service history, stuart is right, if the garage servicing in the passt was not VAT reg'd then you may have an issue and belts are generally classed as a consumable item, in all my years working for main dealers we had only a couple of instances like this and the only manufacturer to honour a claim was Honda.
they may offer the solution of paying for part of the repair but may also stipulate that it is all done buy a ford main agent so could well end up costing more than if a small private company did the job due to main dealer labour costs
all you can do is put it to ford UK i wouldn't speak to a dealer, i would go direct to ford customer service and see what they have to say for themselves
