Why I Am Glad Im Part Of A Club With Like Minded Enthusiasts....

Post by Safety_James »

Having left work at 5.45, i took the A11 home from Snetterton like normal, usually driving at a relaxed pensioner speed, mulling over the days events and worrying about those to come.. 65mph-70mph average.. (I like to get as much out of the tank as possible)

In the rear view mirror there appears out of nowhere this god awful dark blue glare, not the usual blue/purple hue of a brand new Audi or BMW but darker and "cheaper" the first thought that comes to mind is "Chav/Idiot"

Seconds later he comes shooting past at some stupid speed, (at this point i'm coming past the Shell petrol station) and then cuts right in front of a car pulling out of the garage.

'Idiot' i thought but never mind, he then seems to slow right down to about 50mph causing myself and a few other fellow drivers to over take him.. as i pull level with him he begins to match my speed.

"Here we go again i thought, some idiot wanting to race on a road filled with rush hour traffic at night.. Just F**K off.."

Its now apparent that this horrible car is an orange 52 plate Clio Cup 172. Ok granted, they aren't slow, and i have seen them fly round the circuit in a controlled area, not a chance am i going to entertain this idiot.

He probably thought because i was driving an Integra Type R that i would be up for some kind of fun on the road.. think again.

Anyway, as i continue, at this point doing about 75mph he pulls behind me, sits right up the rear of the car for about 2 miles, accelerating and then backing off etc.. How boring.

This continues up to the Wymondham turning, by which time my temper is starting to boil :toetap05: thinking when i get to Thickthorn i'm going to get out and have a word with this idiot of a boy, suddenly and for some insane reason he swerves out, to almost be rear-ended by a hasty Audi Q7 and pulls back in behind me, the Audi drivers lights flash, horn goes and signs exchanged.

Im getting sick of this, was almost tempted to drop it down and boot it but thought better of it as ive controlled myself this far..

He's now turned to pulling alongside, giving some sign abuse and then accelerating off, and then pulling back alongside. What an idiot, and un-provoked.

He goes for it one last time and as he is about 3 car lengths ahead i saw a huge puff of black smoke, something most certainly metallic come from the rear of the car and his hazards go on... "Bloody Brilliant" i thought to myself.

I slowed down to 60 opened my window and waved at him :smilielol5: as there he was, coming to a halt in the fast lane, just before the Ketteringham turning with his hazards on.. :hurray: Serves you right son!!!

So i apologise to anyone who got held up by the back-log of traffic that he would have inevitably caused...

This is why i'm glad i'm part of a club that has taught me a lot over the last few years and one whose members drive fast and well in controlled areas, not on the bloody road...

Well done James serves the cretin right, makes you wonder how he got a licence in the first place assuming of course that he has one.

Guys, guys. Let's not be too hasty. Whilst outright racing on the road is obviously a bit daft, maybe this fella was just a bit over zealous? Obviously he could just be a complete tit also, but I think we are setting ourselves up for a bit of a fall if we allude to the fact that we never succumb to the joys of driving :)

Glad you avoided trouble James.

Your point is very true Stuart and like me i'm sure we have all had a little ding dong when its maybe quieter on the road but not to a standard which is instantly recognisable as dangerous stupidity.

There was no need for the way he was acting.

Possibly my initial view of him as a driver would probably have been different had he not almost caused 2 serious accidents in the space of 5 minutes.

Hopefully from this episode he might learn something.

James, I think I know you well enough to say that you enjoy putting your foot down, when it is safe and reasonable to do so. The difference between that style of driving and the guy in the Renault was probably miles apart.

My main concern was that this thread was in danger of becoming a bit of a 'oooooh, you naughty speed limit breaking monkey' bashing episode, when in truth most of us have possibly succumbed to a bit of V-tec yo or similar, at some point.

You should have popped a business card in his hand and asked him if he'd like some pointers :)

I have to say with both my Teg and Lisa's Civic they do tend to attract a certain type of fellow road user!!

The Type R badge is a bit like something shiney to a magpie!!!
