Help needed, want to buy an MR2

Hi, i've now come the decision of selling my beloved mini

in favour of something that'll give me a bigger grin and is reliable.

so i want to get an MR2;

one like this to be exact, so can you offer me some wise words, what i need to look out for, pros and cons e.t.c please?

Will the MR2 actually be quicker than the mini?

Remember looking into buying one a while ago, seem to remember that they are surprisingly heavy. And when driving it, it was just not exciting.

Import turbo may be different?

one of my friends had a uk 2.016v coupe for about 8 years and it did feel rather slow think the Tbars where slightly quicker but not sure, i'd deffo go for a import turbo if funds allow for running costs

yeah the MR2 will be quicker than the mini, plus i'm looking more into practical/fun summer driving rather than spending time fixing a 21 year old car :lol:

i'll get a quote now for a turbo MR2, but i bet that'll shoot the insurance up a bit. for a non turbo t-bar it's

Try to find the later Gt engine with better power. I did induction and exhaust mod on one a couple of years ago. Made 170 at the fly and was quite quick.

Yeah as said get the later Rev3 ( L reg onwards i think ) as the engines are alot better, i would go for the turbo they are very reliable i have had 1 and mate had a 350bhp Rev 3, they look nice with the rev 5 rear spoiler

Great cars and the handling will amaze you

2 litres are still quite quick but the FI versions are mega. Speak to GT4Dave on here for any engine or buying advice that you may need. What he doesn't know etc etc

cheers for the info guys, i was looking at getting a rev3 onwards, i'll try to get a turbo version, but they seem to be hard to find (pistonheads and auto trader) i really want a T-top in either white or blue especially since it's great whether, and i can still lay down some track time

I had a N/A mr2 when I was 19 it was a great little car always wished Id have gone for the turbo version but at that age the insurance was painful! They certainly have strong engines but as other people mentioned the rev 3 onwards were better. If you do get one be prepared, when the back steps out they do snap!
