how does it work as my car is a 1996 but was registered over here after 2001 , im not sure wether it goes on age of car or when it was registered
probably the later just to screw a bit more out of you

Think it just goes on the emissions rating on the V5, which is absent for our unofficial imports :-D

For pre-2001 it's just based on engine size, above or below 1550cc I think, so the RX-7 must have been classified on its minimum capacity.

Pre-March 2001 cars or imports don't use tax bands calculated by CO2 emissions.

That's how you get strange situations like my 1.6 NA EK9 costing the same as a R33 GTR, or the silly cheap RX-7.

thats handy then , so all imports even if you was to get a 2008 model will be the lower tax, i say lower i mean the over 1.6 for say a r35 gtr or new subaru sti

Well that's what I've read - issue 118 of EVO looked at all the ways of avoiding the high taxes.
