Well I have managed to get by so far without having to get a CSCS card but it seems that nearly every site now insists on all contractors having one. So I paid the

What's a CSCS card?

I'm sure other European countries don't pursue H&S and other regulations with the same absolute, to the letter, vigour that this place does. It seems one big conspiracy to get this country on it's knees, something that's been tried a couple of times in the past without success but is now being achieved by EU stealth. :x

Sorry but you did mention soap boxes. :)

It's called the "construction safety certificate scheme" I just can't believe that I have to effectively be tested to enable me to do the same job that I have been doing for 20 years. Apparently they send someone out to site to watch you do the various aspects of the job and then you can get a bloody NVQ, Whoop de doo.

NVQ - No Value Qualification as you can't actually fail it :? I have a low opinion of NVQ'S and i've got a D32/33.

Done my CSCS test about four years back they never said/asked about NVQ's although i have a few. All common sense, HS stuff really i didn't read up on anything as the company i worked for paid so wasnt fussed about passing.

The assessor bit of the NVQ/GNVQ is a load of tosh too Ive gained my A1 assessors award recently after about 2hours of training. Strangest thing is you don't kneed do know diddly squat about the subject your assessing

I took my CSCS test in January Nik, part of James clients requirements. The DVD rom is very useful and will run through most of what you need I suspect.

As Breadvan states the examination itself is laughably simple with an 80% pass mark I think. I got 100% correct in 3 minutes flat (42 questions I seem to recall) I am not bright (go on, get it out of your system) but it really just requires a bit of planning and preperation.

Regards the 'effort' justifying the need.... I would really just consider that the competition are in the same boat and you don't want them to have an advantage, do you? Do it Nik. If for no other reason, you will see just how stupid some people really are  (One guy I met was there for his third attempt)

 I agree, NVQ's are a bit of a joke..you seem to get them for nothing.
